Bristol Palin says having a baby is hard work, 24-hours-a-day work, and she doesn’t have time for friends or the things she used to do before becoming a teenage mom. Bristol said this seated on The Today Show couch with her dad, Todd, and a sleeping baby Tripp, as the teen ambassador for the The Candie’s Foundation, talking about teen pregnancy and why other teens should avoid it.
Despite saying in a taped interview before the appearance, “If I can prevent even one girl from getting pregnant, I will feel a sense of accomplishment,” Bristol, 18, tiptoed around how to avoid pregnancy. In past interviews, she said abstinence is not realistic for many teenagers, but today she said: “Abstinence is the only 100-percent-foolproof way to prevent pregnancy.” When Matt Lauer asked if promoting abstinence is a do-as-I-say-not-as-I-do way to go for Bristol, she said people should learn from her example, but agreed practicing safe sex is necessary.
