This Douche needs to get a life if she thinks she can tell if an employee is lying by their hands and feet. She claims she can see new nail polish on their fingers and toes, and this is the dead giveaway that they falsely called in sick. Well a---- corporate douche slut, I have called in… Read More »

Six words nearly turned my day upside-down: "Mom, I have a sore throat."
My son stood in the hallway outside my bedroom door yesterday morning, looking forlorn. Immediately, I ran through my day in my head and asked myself a series of questions:
- Would I be able to…

My coworker has come down with something pretty nasty and instead of taking a day off, he comes to work and shares his sickly find with the office. "Gee, thanks" I think, "Can I get some fries with that?" So he sits in the cubicle facing…

There was a time last fall when my 4-year old son and I happened to be sick at the same time. While it might sound crazy to someone who isn't a parent, most of you will get that the norm for us is to pass a bug back and forth for what seems like an eternity rather than both of us battling it at once. But this time, there we were, a bed full of misery and wadded up Kleenex.
It wasn't until about 24 dreadfully long hours in that I realized that although I'd given my son his medication like clockwork, I hadn't taken anything myself to ease my own symptoms. Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (8) | Blog

A wave of coughing, congestion, and discomfort has swept through my home. It came on quickly, as it usually does, during the weeks when I haven't had enough sleep and the kids at my son's preschool seem to be more sniffly than usual. I don't remember my mother EVER having a cold, although I'm sure she did. I have some friends who insist that their husband stay home from work until they are well and then I have others who plow through like they aren't sick at all. I've never really been clear on... Read More »

My son’s birthday party is tomorrow. I tend to do “old skool” parties. You know, the type we had as kids. No jumpy houses, no pony rides, no entertainers, no frills. My son’s party will be at the park down the street. The highlight this year will be a piñata.By Robyn Roark

Frills or not, birthday parties are a lot to manage on top everything else I am managing right now. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy to plan my son’s birthday party. It’s the shopping, the organizing, the set-up, and my least favorite, the clean-up that always seem to leave me in a big ball of stress by the end of the party.
To get everything ready, I am taking a sick day today. Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (28) | Blog

Excitement, excitement, excitement, excitement,
way too much sugar, kaboom. And ouch. I got home very very late last
night, spent an hour troubleshooting the Internet connection I so badly
needed to work to upload actual work, and then crash, explode. The
bonus is that I slept like I rock,... Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (2) | Blog
