It might sound weird, but it's totally true: even if you have super oily skin, you should still use moisturizer.
I wish I had known this as a teenager. I, of course, had super-oily, acne prone skin and I never touched moisturizer because I was sure it would break me out more. Instead I just applied every acne product I could find and tried to dry my skin out as much as possible. Sound familiar?
The reason this doesn't work is that your skin needs some moisture and if it gets too dry, it will produce more oil to make up for it. So by drying out your skin and not adding moisture, you're actually making it oilier! (As if the world wasn't cruel enough already.)
Now, the trick is to find the right moisturizer for your oily or acne-prone skin. TotalBeauty.com readers have a few suggestions:

In high school, I pretty much cleaned out the acne section of my local drugstore trying to find a cure for my lovely (ha!) zits. Although I'm sure my lack of patience didn't help much (most dermatologists say you should give acne products a solid month of use to see if they're right for you), I felt like I wasted a fortune and was still left applying a mountain of concealer each day. And really, even an amazing concealer like one of these can only do so much for a face full of zits, you know?
If you're living my high school nightmare right now (even if you're out of high school, because let's be honest, I've been out a long time and I still get the odd flare up), listen up: TotalBeauty.com readers have found the drugstore products that actually work! Sure, you could spend a fortune on high-end products or prescription creams, but these will deliver the results you want for way cheaper. Check them out below -- no more clearing out the Walgreen's shelves for you!

I reluctantly put up with breakouts in high school (ever notice how they always popped up right before picture day, prom, any remotely-important social event?) but now that I'm a bit (OK, more than a bit) older, I've had enough. I'm tired of the pms-related breakouts, the stress-induced pimples, and the regular old zits that feel the need to visit from time to time.
I've decided to kick acne's butt -- and I have the products to do it. All of these gave TotalBeauty.com readers clear skin, and I'm determined to join their ranks. Need a little help in the acne department too? Click on any of these products below to see what they can do for you.

I love having oily skin. I love using blotting papers five times a day to sop up the grease. I love that my forehead looks like a lighthouse beacon in any picture taken with a flash (like this one). And most of all, I love how all that oil makes it so easy for new pimples to pop up on my face. Isn't it the best?!
Oily skin sucks, but lucky for us, it can be managed. Check out these oil-controlling products, TotalBeauty.com readers swear by them to keep their faces shine free all day -- in any weather. Feeling a little gun-shy after your own efforts to stop the grease? Get all the facts by clicking on the products after the jump. Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (26) | Blog

I just had to respond to this reader's problem; I totally feel her pain:
"I have EXTREMELY oily skin and I'm getting married in two months. I want to wear full-on makeup but as of now I can't because my skin is so oily; it feels like I'm wearing a mask."
Oily skin can be a big pain; it's no fun using powder or blotting sheets every hour, believe me. But there are things you can do to fight it (start this a few weeks before your wedding so your skin has time to adjust): Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (20) | Blog
