What causes
so-called "white heads," or milia, and how do I prevent
them and avoid them? Milia are tiny cysts under the skin.
They're often caused by over-moisturization and the use of
occlusive moisturizers that contain mineral oil or petrolatum. The

My mother—along with your mom and generations of moms behind us—is crazy. Most of our talks aren’t so much conversations as they are her instructing me to do insane things. “Start a low-carb gift basket company!” “Learn masonry!” “Do a flamenco dance in the face of men!” Last night it was, “You look tired, you should put cold spoons under your eyes.” Huh? How it works, after the jump, then you tell us what your mom swears by! Read More »

We get plenty of beauty questions at TotalBeauty.com (and if you have one, post it here), but when we saw this one -- from a woman in the Army -- we just had to share:Hi Ladies, I am a soldier in the Army and I just got overseas about a week ago. The heat here is a lot more brutal than I'd imagined ... Could someone please recommend to me the best products as far as sunblock, cleansers and toners? It actually goes up to 140 degrees here, I want to make sure to take care of my skin the best way I can … Please help, I just don't want to come home next year looking like an alligator. Thanks! -- msbrown822, TotalBeauty.com reader

I know plenty of bald hairdressers whom I would still listen to because they spend their lives styling other people's hair. On the other hand, there are quite a few YouTube videos out there where women are giving decent advice (check out our faves here), but often they look like they just rolled out of bed or worse.
What do you think? Will you listen to a potentially good makeup tip no matter what state the person giving it is in? Or do you find beauty advice from un-put-together people a bit sketchy?
