Life with Cancer: Have you broken your New Year's resolution yet? (I have...)

We are eight days into '09 and I have already broken my New Year's resolution. Actually I never even started it. Nick and I both said we'd like to be healthier—eat dinner earlier, eat less of it, drink less wine—and, whoops! I've done no such thing. Case in point:

Yesterday morning I took Alex to the diner before our Toddler Tunes class (he doesn't go to "school" on Wednesday) and I ordered French toast with sausage and two fried eggs for us to "split." Surprise, surprise, he was more interested in playing with the sugar packets than eating any food (he had already devoured oatmeal and bananas at home) so I...cleaned the plate for us. Then last night I joined my sister Meghan and my mom for a bite to eat and we shared a bottle of wine. And by "we" I mean Meghan and me. D'oh! Why can't I get it together? (Um, don't even get me started on Nick's stick-to-in-ness...)

Anyone can stick with these 10 small changes for a healthier life!

On the plus side, I have worked out every day (while watching The Food Network, which seems counterproductive and probably is) and Nick and I have kept up with our other plan which is to focus more on ourselves rather than worrying about what other people do (i.e., whenever we want to comment on the way someone in our life is behaving or living their life, we turn that energy onto ourselves and how we can live better instead—make sense?).Make your life better in just 31 days!

I don't know, I honestly hate resolutions (almost as much as I hate New Year's Eve itself.) I really gave up on making them back when I was diagnosed with cancer. I just felt like having cancer was punishment enough, why should I have to torture myself any more? But of course, my life went on and, frankly, I could use some improvements (see paragraph, above). Ugh. Help me out here...What was your resolution and have you stuck with it so far?

I never make them anymore. I too would like to drink less wine but then I think: why?

I agree with Apple, I never make them anymore. I actually want to drink more wine, lol. My hubby only drinks beer. I have been walking atleast an hour a day, tomorrow yoga. Just have to do whatever you can each day, and not worry when you "slip up". Enjoy life.

Oh god, I know. I broke my resolutions on the very first day! Although that has a lot to do with the fact that me and my boyfriend broke up bang on new years day. I do try to excersize more though!

I absolutely HATE New Year's eve too, and never make resolutions. It's funny that more than one person mentioned drinking less wine - it seems like I make that decision almost every day, and then, like Apple, I think, Why? :-)

I don't make resolutions. Knowing me very well, I would break them. I would like to change my eating habits, though.

So far I've made them and stuck to them ... so far. LOL. I seldom make them but thought "what the heck" and tried it this year. I've been eating smaller portions (started that back in December) and have lost 16 pounds to boot. I'm exercising more, although not enough. That's ok though. I'm sticking to it ... and that's what counts.

Well I'm not a big "resolution" maker but I did resolve to stop drinking wine completely till the end of January (no exceptions) and after that only when eating out at restaurants, valentines, etc. till I'm back down to the weight I was when I started my current job. I lost two pounds already. Now I know some of it is due to no longer chugging down eggnogs, christmas cookies & candies and all the appetizers from the holidays, but it's good incentive to keep me on track with this particular resolution.

I spent last year recovering from cancer after having it twice. Grrrr. And my body has changed sooooooooooo much so I am doing my best to get into good shape now.

I go to the gym. I drink water not soda, coffee, tea, etc. But I do enjoy the things that I like sometimes. We have to. If you try to do everything cold turkey then it won't work. There's always room for improvement in our lives, but there's always room for enjoyment too.

My goal for 2009 is to enjoy it as much as I enjoyed 2008. I survived cancer, and while it wasn't easy, I appreciate life even more than I did previously.

    Best of luck to you!
