Why I had Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation

user

I'll start this by saying that whatever side you're on in LVR debate, ''You're right."  The issue is complex and very personal.  And yet, it's also a public issue.

What do I mean?  Well, while I hate that some women feel compelled to use LVR to improve their appearances "down there," that's a topic for another blog.  Today I want to talk about some other reasons why a woman might choose LVR.  Her gynecological health.  I'll just tell you why I did it and why I consider it one of the best health decisions I've ever made.

A few years ago I gave birth to my second child overseas.  I opted for an all-natural childbirth and that's what I got, complete with total lack of doctor supervision.  I was left with a beautiful baby girl and a torn cervix, lacerated vaginal wall, splayed perineum that was not sewn back together, a dropped bladder (cycstocele) and a dropped lower intestine (rectocyle).
Everyday I had embarrassing urine leaks which made my life miserable.  Exercise was out of the question. Making love to husband was sometimes painful and I always had to use the bathroom during the moment due to my dropped bladder.  Talk about a mood killer.

When I returned to the states, I saw an Ob/Gyn right away.  He shrugged off my concerns, told me that I could get a sling put in place and get sterilized through a hysterectomy to repair the problem.  I was only 30 years old!  I went from doctor to doctor until I heard about LVR.  In the article I read that LVR repairs rectocyle and cycstoceles and that I would be "restored"  Perfect!

I did more research.  I met with doctors.  One doctor made me very uncomfortable so I went to another.
My husband and I scraped up the almost $14,000 cash to pay. (No small sacrifice for a family of five that only makes $40,000 a year).

The surgery repaired everything.  I don't leak.  I'm running again for the first time in more than five years!!  I'm no longer in pain during sex.  I'm happy.  My kids are happy to have their mother chase them around and play.  Hubby is thrilled for me.  He says it's a miracle to see me running again and that the LVR surgery was worth every penny.  I agree with him.  I couldn't be happier.

But for me the issue doesn't stop there.  After lots of research, I found that lot of women world-wide have these problems.  Why wouldn't any insurance cover this (no, not a single insurance company)? It was, after all, a restoration of prior function and necessary for normal living.  Other questions came to mind. Why is this primarily used as a cosmetic/sexual gratification surgery?  What does that say about our culture and what a woman's role/place really is in that culture?  Are women really empowered or are we being patronized and culturally rewarded for behaving in ways that benefit men?  ie, having a surgery to conform to a male ideal of female genital beauty?

What do you all think?
