User post: Would You Want to Know Your "Rank"?

Students at Yale University have supposedly released a "scouting report" ranking the females in the freshman class. The scores are based on how much alcohol it would require to find the women attractive, ranging from sobriety to 10 beers.

I'm assuming this made the news because Yale students are supposed to be smart and not sink to something as immature as ranking female classmates. But sadly, I think assigning women scores is something men (err, boys) do even when they're out of college.

At my old job, a few of the men had made up a a list of the most attractive women based on the Sweet 16 bracket used in college basketball. And I've heard my guy friends rate women on a scale from one to 10 before.

This kind of behavior flies in the face of all the articles about women being more judgmental of each other than men are of us. I can honestly say that I have never assigned another female a "score" or heard my girl friends do such a thing. I also have never given a guy a number. Everyone for me usually falls into one of four categories: unattractive, OK, pretty/cute or beautiful. Why complicate it?

Would you ever want to know if your significant other or another male in your life had ranked you based on looks? Have you ranked people of either gender before?

I'm not one to be hung up on looks. Yes, we live in a beauty-driven society. But everyone is so shallow. There are much more important things than looks. I wouldn't care about what rank I got because I don't really care what other people think about me. I love and respect myself and that's all that matters. I don't need others opinions to make me feel bad or extremely vain about myself. But I do wish men would grow up and look past what cup size or jean size a woman is to the person she is on the inside. I am sick of being objectified as a gender and as a specific person...

...as if we need any more reason to think men are immature pigs, this pops up. I'd love to see how they score on their own test.

When I entered college back in '69, you had to attach a photo along with your application. They annually published photos of all incoming freshman in a soft-cover publication called "The Pig Book." I guess those Yalies finally learned how to count to ten.

And, to save the taxpayers the cost of a trial, I plead guilty to all charges. I am NOT a member of the "politically correct" generation. To quote a fine Englishman I once worked with, "I call a spade a bloody shovel."

I've ranked, have been ranked, and even ranked myself before. I really don't see what the big deal is.

If you're looking for someone for a night pretty, stupid, shallow, vaccuous is okay. But if you're looking for someone for a lifetime smart, funny, honest, soulful will keep you on the porch.

I suspect the small head was making the decisions when this idea came up.
