New Oklahoma law will publicy post details of women’s abortions online.

Posted from Think Progress

On Nov. 1, a law in Oklahoma will go into effect that will collect personal details about every single abortion performed in the state and post them on a public website. Implementing the measure will “cost $281,285 the first year and $256,285 each subsequent year.” Here are the first eight questions that women will have to reveal:

1. Date of abortion
2. County in which abortion performed
3. Age of mother
4. Marital status of mother
(married, divorced, separated, widowed, or never married)
5. Race of mother
6. Years of education of mother
(specify highest year completed)
7. State or foreign country of residence of mother
8. Total number of previous pregnancies of the mother
Live Births
Miscarriages
Induced Abortions

Although the questionnaire does not ask for name, address, or “any information specifically identifying the patient,” as Feminists for Choice points out, these eight questions could easily be used to identify a woman in a small community. “They’re really just trying to frighten women out of having abortions,” Keri Parks, director of external affairs at Planned Parenthood of Central Oklahoma, said. The Center for Reproductive Rights is challenging the law, arguing that “it violates the Oklahoma Constitution because it ‘covers more than one subject’ — a challenge that previously worked to strike down an abortion ultrasound law.”

I think even my pro-life counterparts would argue that this is a brazen disregard for patient privacy. Whether you agree with abortion or not, medical records are not for public scrutiny.

Ok... even though I agree with keeping these kind of statistics... I highly disagree with posting them publically... Even if you can't figure out who it is (because a person could just go the next county over)... and yes... I am a "pro-lifer"...

"medical records are not for public scrutiny"

True that. That law is seriously asking for the state of Okla to be sued for HIPPA violations.

Except... I am trying to find a news article (outside of Think Progress) that talks about it... and I'm not finding anything...

well, if you don't want your business online then don't have an abortion! It's simple common sense.

    God forms every child-Psalm 139:13-16

    Sin has consequences-Ezekiel 18:20

    God has forbidden murder-Deutoronomy 5:17.

Children are a heritage and a blessing from God, Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warriors hand. How happy is the man whose quiver is full of them -Psalm 127:3-5

Love in marriage is honorable and pure-Hebrews 13:4.

Oh ok... I found the bill... However, it seems that people are more worried about being shown and provided with the ultrasound than having their statistical information online... :/
