How do you keep yourself from drunk dialing?
editor
So I had a bunch of lovely friends over this weekend, and somehow
the conversation turned toward drunk dialing. You know how it can
be: You just broke up with someone you're convinced you may or may
not be still in love with, you've had a couple cocktails, it seems
like a great idea for you to contact said person and express your
undying love for them and possibly convince them that you never
should've parted in the first place. Yet it never fails that the
next day you live to regret the drunk dial, right?
People have resorted to the craziest things to prevent this from
occurring in the first place. One person put her phone in the
freezer, (possibly the worst idea since well, drunk dialing).
Others remove their battery and while this is effective, becomes a
bummer when it's M.I.A. the next day. The cumulative question here
is, what is the best way to prevent the party foul that is drunk
dialing? Anyone? And have you ever had a drunk dial that resulted
in anything less than, "Oh man, what was I thinking?"

Write yourself a note list 10 reasons why you do not need to make that "OH SO IMPORTANT CALL" until morning. Attach it to the phone.
I almost drunk dialed someone last weekend and it worked!

I've never done that cuz I don't drink. I've been emotionally distraught and have called men then and probably sounded desperate and drunk. I've had a few men call me while inebriated and they sounded totally like insipid, foolish, and worthless jerks.......even had one who would tell me to "f**k off"while drunk on his "tintures" (gin with some sort of Chinese herbs). Unless you're in control of your tongue, don't call someone and plead your case with them. You'll just end up sounding like a moron.

Before going out scroll through you contacts and put the words "DON'T CALL" infront of the ex's name. That always makes me react. If you're lucky sometimes you'll forget you changed the name and won't be able to find the number.

I share your need to pick up the phone and let someone know what a piece they are, how they ruined my life, and how I so wish we could turn back the hands of time, etc......... What I've been doing when I get the crazy urge to humilate myself is just grab a piece of paper and write down all of my feelings, regrets, hopes, and thoughts. I'm beginning to think I'm writing a novel or something. I save them and reread them, and slowly I can see I'm not so angry anymore, there is no one to blame, it's just a part of life, we love and we lose, and we have to go forward. It's an inconsolable feeling that just won't leave until it's ready. I don't even have to be loaded to want to pick up the phone, and that scares the hell out of me. These days I just pray to maintain my dignity
