Hookers wanted: The sex-trade industry expects big business during political conventions

Those involved in the sex trade in Denver and the Minneapolis area are gearing up for some big business.

ABC News reports that prostitution will get a boost during the political conventions being held in these two cities in the coming weeks, and online ads indicate the industry pros are getting themselves ready.

"We know it's going to rise," Vednita Carter of Breaking Free, a Denver-based nonprofit which helps women and girls involved in prostitution and sex trafficking, told ABC. "That's what we've been hearing from women who are involved in that life."

"Republican Convention Party Entertainment Hostesses wanted," reads the headline of one "erotic services" ad from the Minneapolis area on CraigsList.org.

A quick search by wowOwow.com found another ad from Minneapolis titled, "Convention goer from DC seeks Asian." The ad text says: "Coming to town with Republican convention seek attractive asian woman for week! It will be a five star ride in every way no expense spared!!!"

Another one posted by a woman offering her services says: "If you are coming to the Republican Convention next month and need a distraction I'd be happy to come by. First timer, nervous CD: ht/wt proportional, wm, safe, sane, professional working in st. paul, ultra discreet."

In the Denver section, one finds the likes of posts titled "Support Your Colorado Entertainers (aka, prostitutes). Other women tout in their postings their proximity to the Pepsi Center and convention sites; "loft, downtown by pepsi cntr and coors field& convention cntr also."

In another Denver ad, "Rebecca" explained that she was offering a special convention rate of $350 for two hours but to qualify, clients must "provide proof of dem. Membership." "Rebecca" confirmed to ABC that responses to her online ads had increased in the days leading up to next week's convention.

In Minnesota and in Denver, victims groups are planning to distribute leaflets and other material outside of convention events. They are particularly concerned about young girls who might "get pimped out by older men" to the cities' guests.

You people say that "they're getting something they don't get at home" as if you know what goes on behind their closed doors! Maybe their wives aren't giving them any because they are a bunch of cheating douche bags, did you ever think about that? The reason they do it is more likely because they have the money to get away with it. Of course if you want to believe the poor politicians are just sex starved, and their evil wives drove them to be with prostitutes, go ahead.

Nose, when you don't know what you're talking about, (and you don't) resort to calling out people's typos. If no one's putting a gun to women's heads to become prostitutes, why do so many underage girls wind up dead, beaten, and pimped out, sometimes by their own family members? Why are their so many activist groups trying to help women FORCED into prostitution? Why do so many prostitutes wind up DEAD everyday? Why is their a huge international sex slave trade? No one's putting a gun to the head of pimps and Johns forcing them to seek out prostitutes. If men stopped paying for sex, there wouldn't be a sex trade. But you go ahead and blame it all on women.

Angela is right. The sex slave trade is huge, but even small potato hookers may not always be walking the streets of their own volition. Everyone tends to stereotype them as lazy greedy w----s or whacked out drug jobs with no future. Men are prostitutes, too, but we don't hear about them nor are they condemned nearly as much as beautiful female hookers. I may not know why anyone would sell themselves, but I do know that prostitution is first and foremost a survival mechanism. One time I accompanied friends to a BDSM club and I met a male sub who told me he used to sell himself on the street in Philadelphia when he was a boy. Yes, all that sick stuff you hear about overseas happens right here in America, too. People should be more aware about this subject before jumping to conclusions and standing a moral high ground.

The sex trade industry is huge in the Washington DC area, I know cause I live there. Certain areas where the clubs are there are the prostitutes awaiting for someone to pick them up. My friend worked at a bar that was filled with them and pimps and me and my friends happened to have came with her on her shift. It was crazy to see who these females leave with, some are your kids teachers, or your boss, or your college bound son.

Like once stated a gun is not put to these girls head, is right to a certain extent. Some women do this by choice, they if that hey they are having sex anyway why not get paid to do it. Then you have girls from an unstable household with no fatherly background who look for it and unfortunately find it in pimps or boyfriends who know they have low self esteem and use it to their advantage so it is like having a emotional gun to a womans head. These men know what they are doing to make it seem like they are stuck and will have nothing without them, some even threaten them.

Back to the politicians you think when your senator is in the DC area he isnt getting a BJ from a prostitute think again, my friend was a previous park ranger and man the stories I have heard about certain people of a higher authority "getting it in" in the park, and at times its not with a female..

Its crazy but it is what it is..

I don't see it being legalized, because just like marijuana it if it was to be legal it would be regulated and taxed. If that even makes sense.

I'm all for both prostitution and drugs being legalized, especially marijuana. It will make them BOTH safer. And I'd LOVE for them to be taxed. They could use the money to actually cure a disease for a change.

But, Andie is right. The government has too much to lose from the current system. They already make a lot of profit from the way things are, and if either drugs or prostitution were legalized, it would be too easy to find out what politicians and other public servants were using them.
