Hookers wanted: The sex-trade industry expects big business during political conventions

Those involved in the sex trade in Denver and the Minneapolis area are gearing up for some big business.

ABC News reports that prostitution will get a boost during the political conventions being held in these two cities in the coming weeks, and online ads indicate the industry pros are getting themselves ready.

"We know it's going to rise," Vednita Carter of Breaking Free, a Denver-based nonprofit which helps women and girls involved in prostitution and sex trafficking, told ABC. "That's what we've been hearing from women who are involved in that life."

"Republican Convention Party Entertainment Hostesses wanted," reads the headline of one "erotic services" ad from the Minneapolis area on CraigsList.org.

A quick search by wowOwow.com found another ad from Minneapolis titled, "Convention goer from DC seeks Asian." The ad text says: "Coming to town with Republican convention seek attractive asian woman for week! It will be a five star ride in every way no expense spared!!!"

Another one posted by a woman offering her services says: "If you are coming to the Republican Convention next month and need a distraction I'd be happy to come by. First timer, nervous CD: ht/wt proportional, wm, safe, sane, professional working in st. paul, ultra discreet."

In the Denver section, one finds the likes of posts titled "Support Your Colorado Entertainers (aka, prostitutes). Other women tout in their postings their proximity to the Pepsi Center and convention sites; "loft, downtown by pepsi cntr and coors field& convention cntr also."

In another Denver ad, "Rebecca" explained that she was offering a special convention rate of $350 for two hours but to qualify, clients must "provide proof of dem. Membership." "Rebecca" confirmed to ABC that responses to her online ads had increased in the days leading up to next week's convention.

In Minnesota and in Denver, victims groups are planning to distribute leaflets and other material outside of convention events. They are particularly concerned about young girls who might "get pimped out by older men" to the cities' guests.

Stupid Sh*t. The article makes it sound so enterprising, consumerism, capitalism, and oh so very American. Hope the husbands don't bring back any venereal diseases back to the wives. God Bless America, home of the brave w----s. Disgusting. I'm not against prostitution per se, but keep it in the red light district and let whomever come to them (pun intended). This article makes it all sound so cute and wholesome as if they are vendors of great merchandise ready to plow onto the convention.

It's the men that are disgusting. You know they are all married as well. What is it about politicians and prostitutes anyway?

Nose, you're an idiot. The point of this article is that OUR LEARDERS are going to be SPENDING OUR TAX DOLLARS on prostitutes. Prostitution isn't only something that only takes place in back allies between women in poverty who need their next crack fix. There are plenty of women, LIKE THIS POST POINTS OUT, that make a lot of money doing it. Still, it doesn't matter, it's dangerous, no matter how much money you make, and the agencies who work with these women have to especially watch out for young girls, mostly underage runaways, who get pulled in by older men who abuse them physically, emotionally, and sexually.

I find it pretty stupid of you to blame the WOMEN who do this and not the MEN who pay them for what they do. It's just as illegal to solicite a prostitute as it is to be one.

Angela, you're the idiot when you can't even spell 'Leaders' correctly. No one puts a gun to women's heads to make them prostitute themselves. If you bothered reading what I wrote, I was admonishing the husbands who use the prostitutes. Both are to blame. But in the end, it's about human choice. So mature for you to resort to name calling. Learn to spell and comprehend what you read.

"gay marrgie".......I don't know Marrgie, is she a celebrity? And what's 'wroung'....I'm not familiar with that word. God, people................did any of you learn how to spell in school or are you in such a hurry to type that you don't read what you've written? It's just not worth reading anything that is grammatically incorrect or misspelled. You sound like a bunch of uneducated morons.

This is why they should legalize prostitution. It's not going to go away. After all, it is the world's oldest profession. If you legalize it and regulate it, you would cut down on a lot of the risks and abuse. Require all prostitutes to register and receive a state license. Require mandatory testing and have those results validated by the state as part of keeping the license current. Ditto with checking age. How do you pay for all this regulations? Taxing the prostitution industry.

Sure this will not prevent all the abuse, but the thing is, most clients don't go looking for the underage, disease riddled prostitute. You give those street pimps competition and they will straighten up their act. After all, it's about money. And if your current business model doesn't bring in any business, then you must adapt.

It may be the world's oldest profession, but it's a sickening one. Why can't these #@!~!@ men be happy with what they have at home? The whole idea that they visit a prostitute in the first place shows that they are selfish, self-centered $#@!#$s! They are only thinking about what THEY WANT, and if their women can't or won't provide some of these things then they go elsewhere. If they end up with an STD or a fatal one, they've brought it all upon themselves. Can't blame anybody else for their stupid choices.

In response to brisingamen's comment of "What is it about politicians and prostitutes anyway?": I believe they both have a lot of commonalities, mainly they do any and everything for money. One propositions people for money, the other propositions corporations, lobbyists, and political action committees for money. No wonder our country is being " w----d" out to the highest bidder.
