Destination Wedding

user

So faithful readers, yours truly is getting hitched.  That's right taking the plunge.  She's the best girl in the world and I can't imagine spending the rest of my life without her.  Now to get to the meat of this post and the reason that I'm writing it.  We decided that next May we are going to have our destination wedding in the Dominican Republic.  It sounds great; Tropical beaches, all inclusive resort, friends and family....FUN!

I am beginning to run into some issues though.  My Travel agent is driving me freaking nuts.  I cannot get a set price out of her or responses when i need them.  Last week I gave her my card for the deposit, once the happy couple makes the deposit (us) everyone we've invited that is going has 10 business days to get their deposit in.  She was to send me on Monday the final and exact totals that people would be paying.

Yesterday at 5 pm I received an email where she said that the airfare price is "up like $283 per person" and she is checking into gettng lower rates with her travel rep, and is also checking into leaving a day earlier, Saturday instead of Sunday.  We have people that are looking at a 4 day trip instead of 7 days and the plan is to get married on the Thursday.  So needless to say this f--- s with all the plans as well as all of the invites that we have sent out so that people would know there was a deposit due and when they had to pay it as well as giving them time to come up with the cash required to pay it (didn't want to spring it on anyone).  I had thought that by going with a travel agent there would be less of a headache for us as we wouldn't have to deal with this type of thing.

Has anyone else ever run into these issues?

Know af any good travel agents that should be called?

Should I just say f--- it and take care of it myself?

Just hoping for a little insight and help!

Thanks all!

You need a pro Tour operator - not a retail travel agent who may be a mom and pop operation. Go to Applevacations.com There's an 800 number on their website. They are a wholesale tour operator who practically invented the all-inclusive concept (they've been doing it for 40 years) and they do it better than anybody. If you want a local travel agent they will refer you to one of their "Golden Apple" agents who are experts on this type of trip. I ONLY travel with Apple - they're the best. They take care of everything for you. Even the wedding coordinator.
