My dad says these sunglasses are unattractive. Oh, well! Sofia was a cop and Beth was an eye chart!
Sofia also came. She brought her fiancee Alex as well as her friend from Italy; we’ll call him D. He was funny, smart, tall, cute, and Italian. Best of all, he was not wearing a costume (my kind of guy). I was dressed as a Pink Lady. I don’t think he knew what a Pink Lady was.
Petra and Kim stayed in character for every photo.
After a few drinks and some serious dancing, Sofia, Alex, D and I left because I had two other parties to go to. But there were no cabs and the F train wasn’t running, so we gave up on the parties and started walking. In Soho, we stopped at a bar so I could go to the bathroom. After a bit, Sofia and Alex went home. I could have gone home too, but D said it was too early and I stayed with him.

I bought a round of drinks because D’s Italian credit cards weren’t working, and when I ran out of cash, I put down my card. The minimum was so high, though, that I ended up drinking way more than I wanted and still having to give out free drinks to people. D and I were getting pretty cozy by then and of course we started kissing. He was, um, quite the passionate Italian.
Eventually, we left and strolled to the 6 train, but that station was closed as well, so we kept walking. I had to go to the bathroom again, so we went into another bar. When I came out, it was weird. D and I stood next to each other for some time. He was looking off toward some door, like he was expecting someone. Finally, I said, “Well, I’m going to go home now.” He nodded. So, I left. I felt kinda jilted and I also wondered if I’d been taken for some free drinks.
The next 3 subway stops were closed, and there were so many people on the street, it was impossible to get a cab. My phone rang. D had gotten my number from Sofia. He wanted to know where I was. I guess he hadn't understood that I was leaving. But by this point, I had already walked a mile. I'd finally reached a subway station that was open, and I really had to go to the bathroom AGAIN. I just wanted to get home. I was so Odysseus.

I waited on the subway platform for centuries. The train was packed with crazies. It took about 40 minutes to go 3 miles. My feet and back hurt, and I had to pee so bad I could cry. It was 4 a.m. I’m telling you, I felt so done with everything—NYC, crowds, mass transit, Halloween, costumes, and men.
But today my friend Caroline, who has a baby, reminded me that she wouldn’t mind going to a party now and then, and that the grass is always greener. Touche! Or should I say…hai ragione?
How was your Halloween? Did you stay out too late like me? Do you ever feel like you’re just “over” the whole scene and you’re dying to go home?
