Why is it that we now live in a world where if a baby girl has
something on that is blue she is considered a boy or even a little
boy having something yellow. I am so tired of people just
assuming because my daughter has a navy blue care seat with rainbow
colored animals on that she is a boy.
When my daughter was 2 months old I was in a store and some woman
looked at my daughter and asked me how old my son was. I told
her 8 because that is how old he is. Now if she asked me
about how old my children were I would have told her my son is 8
and my daughter is 2 months old. After she finished scolding
me for my smart mouth (this also included finger waggling) she
informed me at her age it does not really make a difference if she
is a boy or girl. This lady (term does not really apply to
her) had the nerve to get offended when I reminded her that seeing
as she looked to be in her 70s that the old people diapers are not
located by the baby diapers. After all, at her age it does
not really matter right?
Then at my sons 2nd grade school parent teacher meeting his teacher
made the remark about how nice it must be for him to have a baby
brother! I had her dressed in a teal green sweatshirt with a
heart on it and a matching bow in her hair. My son being of
few words just rolled his eyes at her and said "duh that's
my sister." Thus ensuing pissing off his teacher and her
telling me I should really should teach my children that it is not
appropriate to smart off to adults. Thus ensuing kicking my
mouth into protective mommy mode and telling her about the little
phrase you can use to remember what the word assume means.
My daughter looks like a baby. I know its hard to tell gender
sometimes. If your not sure wouldn't it be easier to just
say what a cute/adorable baby, or perhaps ask the babies name or
age. Usually the parent will say she/he is ....
But she's a girl!
