Turns out there are many men today who want to breastfeed and are looking to science to make it possible. For instance, Reglan, an acid-reflux medication, could make male lactation a possibility. Is that in the list of side effects? Is that a case of the cure being worse than the disease? “Congrats Doug, your acid reflux is gone but now you have two milk-bearing breasts. Good luck with that.”

Despite your (and my) knee jerk reaction to the idea of men breastfeeding, doctors claim it is entirely possible. In fact, as far back as 1858, explorer David Livingston documented the story of a man whose wife had been put to death and how the man, grief stricken and desperate, put his baby to his “breast” and–viola!-he lactated.
