9 year old afraid of bugs

What to do? My nine year old daughter has taken her fear of bugs to next level. Example.. I thought she had broken a bone by the pure shrill in her scream for me to come to her, only to find her on top of the toilet crying because of a small bug in the corner.
She also undid her seat belt screaming while the car was moving to climb over her 6mth old bother's  car seat to get away from a small bug we didn't even see.
She says her fear comes from a bee sting she got a year ago, but her fear of bugs has increased to an alarming level that friends and family are noticing. Many other mothers have said their children around her age are going through the same issues. But when do a know if it's becoming more than her growth curve? I've tried being stern and telling her she needs to control her behavior about her fear, she still gets scared and screams. I am now telling her I am here  for her and she doesn't need be scared, we will work on her fear together.
If anyone has any ideas about coping with kids coping with fear please comment.
