Tony Hawk
We all know who Tony Hawk is. It is hard to not know who he is with all the T-shirts, MTV appearances, video games, and other skateboarding paraphernalia. This guy is widely respected for his skills and his campaign to promote young talented skaters. He has won major awards left and right and helps revolutionize many skateboard moves. He is the first person on earth to successfully pull of a “900” (two and a half circles). If anyone can be called the new Jay Adams, it might be this guy.
Ryan Sheckler
This guy was first noticed by Tony Hawk. Sheckler was practicing in his very own skatepark (the guy had a rich family). That was why he took his chances at the amateur skateboarding league in CA. He won the contest of course.
After winning the major competitions (X-Games, Gravity Games, Vans, etc), his career really took off. He also won Global Assault, and got a great standing at Tampa Pro. Then after he won the World Cup of the NSC, he really became the “Athlete of the Year.” He even got a MTV show that, though short lived, gained him world wide reputation.
Bucky Lasek
This guy is one real vertical master in skateboarding. He has been the master of several skateboard techniques that seem just too hard (or attention-grabbing) to do in a contest. But this guy keeps on getting it right in an uncanny way. His best moves are the “heel flip front side gay twist” and also the switch front side five forty.”
Another thing that puts this guy on the map is the fact that is one of the only two people to be able to perform a slip in to an invert as will as a seven twenty on vertical while landing, and then rearward!
He has been awarded numerous gold medals from the toughest X-Games competitions among many other medals and trophies from other competitions.
So Who Wins?
No-one. In truth, not one of these is like Jay Adams. It is not about skill. It is about spirit and attitude that made skating what it was.
