It's my life... and I'm sticking with it!

Well... here I am world!  I have never done one of these before, but, hey, there's a first time for everything, right?  The past 7 and a half months have featured a lot of firsts for me... why not a blog too?
Seven and a half months ago I faced probably one of the most dramatic changes in my life... I guess it would come a close third to my marriage almost ten years ago and the birth of my child almost eight years ago.  On August 22, 2007 I underwent Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass surgery with the hope of finally looking somewhat like my sisters, who are beautiful.  I always felt out of place in the world... I would look in the mirror every morning and cringe.  The girl that stared back at me was someone that made me sad.  I knew that deep inside, hidden away, was the fun, active girl that had existed in my early college life before the pounds started to add up... I just couldn't seem to free her no matter how hard I tried.  Gastric bypass was my "last ditch effort" to improve my health, improve my life, and free the girl that lived inside me and wanted so desperately to get out once again.  Well... here I am... a little more than 7 months after surgery and I have found that girl.  It has not been easy, but I have lost almost 90 pounds and have become the active, content person that I once was.  Yes, it has been hard both physically and emotionally at times, but those are stories for another day.
My dream someday is to have the opportunity to help others with my story and my experiences like I have been helped by the men and women who had the surgery before me and shared their stories.  Is this for everyone?  Absolutely not!  However, for those who do choose to pursue weight loss surgery, I would like to have the opportunity to walk alongside and be a voice of support.
For now... I'm signing off.

well, im proud of ya, girlfriend. it takes courage, and lots of it to do what u did. i commend u, and wish u all the success in the world. just always remember, you are beautiful, and when u look in the mirror, no matter what the physical state is that u see looking back at ya, there is not a single soul in this whole wide world like u. As women, we need to uplift each other for real. Hey, we're all in this big ole world together!!
