Verbalizing the spoken language there would be very useful. Much Dominicans may know how to utter English but some who do not speak it are many as well. You may have to be very smooth in Spanish. An effective knowledge of it should be sufficient. You would blend right in with the populous and they would be more assuming of you. You will not have to be named a tourist’s price or be tagged as right off the boat because you seem experienced somehow. It is also your foremost protection against swindles. Crime in the Dominican Republic work in groups. They would be more cautious if you spoke the language.
Many personal clinics have decent health care installations. If health care is your concern, do not proceed to the public hospitals. You should not actually be requiring much from these hospitals regarding the lack of financing they get. There are private ones for expatriates although the physicians in public hospitals would be ready and able to help you, the facilities are not sufficient and sometimes there are electric interruptions. There are serious electricity problems. However, this is not a serious blow, as much expats would refuge to acquiring electric generators sets or solar panels in case of power outages.
Dominicans are not a happy go lucky fatalist lot just because they grin through hardship. Their grins are a sign of hospitality towards you. They would not do you awkward by pouting or appearing miserable in your presence. They are courteous and gracious sufficient to grin. They will not share their concerns with you unless you have established your worth in your stay there. Should you stay there for an extended time, learn to be sensitive about these matters and do not discount the fact that their lives just be awkward even if they cloak them with a smile.
Fancy the courteous culture of the Dominicans and You will not have to be disconcerted. They find it awkward to say no when they really mean it because they do not want to annoy you with their refusal. Ask the correct inquiries and you would get acknowledgments that are more definite. Get a clue.
