Fireworks

Okay so here goes it.  Have you ever met someone who does not understand that something illegal is wron?  In my hometown you cannot shoot fireworks in the city limits.  You can do it in the county but not in the city.  The city has a law that states it is illegal to sale, posses, shoot unless you have a permit.  Most permits are issued for the big show that the city puts on every year or other events.  The people that do the show are trained in pyrotechnics.  I encountered such a person who thinks that her opinion circumvents what is a written city ordinance regarding fireworks in the city limits.  Anyway, multiple conversations later she still thinks she can pick and choose which laws she wants to obey.  Her justification is that since everybody else breaks the law it is okay. Even after telling this individual that the law is there for safety purposes she still thinks she is not doing anything wrong by illegally shooting fireworks in the city.

To start, thank you for your comment on my blog. I am sorry it was so long but it is one of my pet peeves and I couldn't think of a better time to air it than the 4th!! About fireworks, I'm from up north and there is a very strong ban on fireworks at home. As you said, they are reserved for the large city displays. Now, I am living in the South and everyone can own,buy and fire off fireworks at home and everyone does it. We were at my sons house last year and everyone was firing off fireworks, even the small ones with their sparklers. These are fine I guess, but they were waving them around near the faces of the other children and I guess I was the only one scared. But fireworks are not the only illegal things that people feel they can decide for themselves. What about taking building supplies from a building project?"Oh,its ok, everyone is doing it" Yea, until you get arrested. Thats enough for tonight. Tomorrow is the 4th and one of my favorite holidays. Enjoy!!!

She's being very foolish. In my city, the fine is between $500-$2000 if you are caught with fireworks within the city limits.. and believe me, they enforce it. Even something as small as sparklers can get a fine. Just maybe your friend needs to learn a lesson that the law is the law and she is not exempt from it just because she doesn't agree with it. You cannot reason with people who do not want to hear.

I think the message will hit home when there is an accident or a fire due to her use of pyrotechnics, (AKA; fireworks). A lot of cities and states are outlawing fireworks because of the danger associated with the use of them. When I was growing up, one of the neighborhood kids who was high watched while the fuse of an M-80 burned down and took his hand off. He stood there watching mesmerized while the fuse burned away. It is too bad that M-80's and M-100's are not illegal because of the devastation power of each. For the readers who are not familiar with M-80's or M-100's, a M-80 is equivalent to a quarter stick of dynamite and a M-100 is equivalent to a half stick of dynamite. So many fires and injuries have resulted from the use of fireworks. Notice that I never used the word "accident" and only referred to incidents as injuries and fires. Accidents occur when the result of an incident can not be prevented. Injuries and fires resulting from illegal fireworks usage can be prevented, therefore, not accidents. Even when it is a controlled environment, there is still a chance of injury or fire. Often enough you hear of someone being injured or a fire resulting from a professional fireworks show that went wrong.

One of the reality shows on Tru TV, it may have been Most Shocking, showed video of a person who illegally possessed fireworks and incendiary devices. Each night he would terrorize the neighborhood with assorted fireworks. One day, the area where all his fireworks were kept caught fire and burned his house down. It couldn't have happened to a nicer person. I am a firm believer of “what goes around comes around”. As for your neighbor, one day it will come around for her.
