There are so many great Grey’s Anatomy quotes out there. The show has great moments and the lines are really pithy. That is why Grey’s Anatomy quotes are so popular. I know of several different quotes that I have committed to memory. But my favorite is the following which came directly from the mouth of Meredith Grey herself:
“You know how when you were a little kid and you believed in fairy tales, that fantasy of what your life would be, white dress, prince charming who would carry you away to a castle on a hill. You would lie in bed at night and close your eyes and you had complete and utter faith. Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, Prince Charming, they were so close you could taste them, but eventually you grow up, one day you open your eyes and the fairy tale disappears. Most people turn to the things and people they can trust. But the thing is it’s hard to let go of that fairy tale entirely cause almost everyone has that smallest bit of hope, of faith, that one day they will open their eyes and it will come true.”
This is for me the most profound Grey’s Anatomy quote I have come across. I think about this so many times – how the dream, how the fairytale can possibly come true. For me, the fairy tale is God, heaven, everlasting love, and Truth. Acceptance is hard. To accept is to let go really, let go of the ideal, of the dream. The Buddha once said that one of the last most important things that you can ask yourself before you die is how deeply did you let go. This Grey’s Anatomy quote will be etched in my memory.
