Welcome to the Unemployed Club!

Last Wednesday seemed like any other day...I clocked in, I did my
daily duties, and two minutes before clocking out the boss says
" can I see you in my office for a moment.
" I have to admit I wasn't expecting it
at that exact moment. I mean I did kind of see it coming though...I
was starting to get less responsibilities, boss kept talking about
"changes" that were going to happen very soon and when
she asked me to take a test to see if I qualified to take over a
big project and I failed, it was only obvious the Big Boot was
coming. I stepped into her office and the director of Human
Resources was there. The next ten minutes were "Blah Blah Blah
Blah, today was your last day here, here's your paycheck, good
luck!" And that was it. 2 years down the
drain. The following day I filed for unemployment and that
was when I started to realize how many people have been getting
laid off lately. So many friends and family have been losing their
jobs but I guess it's just not something people are proud to
talk about until you've become a part of the club. One
thing I am wondering though, is if the majority of those that have
lost their jobs are simply relying on their unemployment check for
as long as they can, or if they going on a job hunt the following
day. What are you doing? Are you taking an easy
vacation or going through a thousand interviews a day trying to
snag-a-job right away like there's no tomorrow?

I heard that a few states are having trouble coughing up enough money for all of those unemployment checks, so I wouldn't bank on that for long. You might consider going to a couple of job placement services. Also, many people are beginning to realize they will have to relocate and go to where the jobs are. Good luck!

Sorry to hear that! I'm not expecting that type of "meeting" anytime soon, but with all the whispers around the office, it's in the back of my head that it could happen to me too. I'm just trying to prove myself to be a great asset to my company, but keeping my eyes open because if it were to happen, I'd jump on the job hunt train as quickly as I could. I mean taking a little mini vacay would be nice, but I did that last year after quitting my job with no back up plan and I was really surprised at how long it took me to find something else once I was ready to start looking again. Good luck to you!
