Do you believe that 1000 billion dollars pumped in banks and
financial institutions or additional 1000 billion dollars to assist
the vehicle industry, students, the unemployed or people who lost
their houses, etc will make your life better? I don't.
That's because this is what worked in the past, when we
believed that working longer hours, making more money, buying
bigger cars or even sending the kids to college will make
everyone happy. It's not so anymore.
I don't believe that buying more 'stuff' will make me
enjoy life more. I don't believe in over-consumption, in
working 12 hour days, in having my kids with the help of
reproductive techniques when I'm over 40, and putting them in
the hands of Chinese nannies. I just want to live a simple, decent
life. I want to understand how to manage in life so that I
don't feel so unbalanced and out of touch with nature -
something that led us to the financial crisis in the first
place.
So whatever Obama is now planning to do with economy does not
consider me - an individual who realizes that the world has
entered a new phase, where everyone and everything is
interconnected, and where we can't continue living in a old
egoistic manner. I expect the new government acknowledge this and
then help us all cope with the transition.
In short, I want them to teach me the new rules of the game, and
not just reduce everything to money matters.
Money Matters
