How to Pack Successfully for a Business Trip

user

By Lynette Hingle

Packing for a business trip is not a stressful endeavor if you take the time to mentally prepare ahead for what you will need, as well as for unexpected events that may arise. The key to packing for a business trip is in the arrangement. You need to set up an organized system that puts everything you need at your fingertips so you can place all of your focus on the business at hand once you have reached your destination.

Things You'll Need

  • Clothing
  • Business documentation
  • Travel itinerary
  • Toiletries
  • Cell phone charger
  • Laptop power cord or charger
  • Briefcase
  • Luggage

Step 1
Choose solid-colored, wrinkle-free clothing.
Not all hotels are equipped with working irons and ironing boards, so don't assume that you will have access to these items.

Step 2
Choose accessories that are appropriate for business meetings as well as after-hour events.
Women should pack scarves and jewelry that accent their outfits. Men should pack ties, cuff links and nice undershirts that can also be worn independently for casual work-related events.

Step 3
Buy travel-size portions of your favorite toiletries or transfer your toiletries into small plastic jars.
Keep your toiletries in plastic locking bags.

Step 4
Clean and polish all shoes before packing them.
You can place items like socks, rolled underwear, scarves and toiletries in your shoes to save space in your suitcase.

Step 5
Roll wrinkle-proof separates and place them in your suitcase.
You can roll more than one item together to save even more space.

Step 6
Save all business contact information on your cell phone.
Also take along a hard copy just in case.

Step 7
Scan all business documents onto a backup disc or zip drive.
Keep the hard copies in a folder or binder.

Step 8
Pack your cash, credit cards and traveler's checks in separate places
. If your wallet gets stolen, you will still have financial backing in your suitcase or briefcase.

Step 9
Tuck plastic grocery bags into a corner pocket of your suitcase for storage of dirty clothes.

Step 10
Keep all your electrical chargers and cords in your briefcase.
If you pack them in your suitcase, you may forget to bring them with you to work.
