I came back from a week-long trip to Italy on Saturday. It was a trip that had been planned before I got laid off from my job three weeks ago, and I decided to still go despite that change in my financial situation.
Vacation is a word being whispered on fewer and fewer lips. Everyone is worried about their jobs (and in turn, thinking they'll be laid off if they ask for a vacation day or to leave early), supporting their families and financial security. How dare any of us even consider taking off during a time like this.
But here's the thing: we humans not only need breaks, but we need to
But being in another country immersed in its culture and people took me outside myself, outside of the difficulties of my life the last few months, outside of the reality that things are going to be tough without my job, outside the worry and fear over what my next move will be. To experience beauty and relaxation and fill my senses with new foods, sights and sounds, even if just for a week, recharged me.
I hope no matter what your circumstances are right now, you'll take some time this summer to really get away somewhere, even if just for a day. You deserve it.
