Snoreplasty: The New Injection To End Snoring

Girls don’t snore, right? (Wink.) But your guy probably does. For those with snoring problems, there’s a frightening new solution—an injection treatment called “snoreplasty,” which can supposedly replace surgery for those who wish to solve their severe snoring issues (or, at least, appease the women they’re torturing on a nightly basis). The shot, currently available in England, is done under local anesthetic, and targets the roof of the mouth. The compound is a “hardening agent” which prevents vibration in the nasal passageways. While the injection sounds pretty suspect and a little nasty, snoreplasty is apparently cheap, only 3 GBPs (about $5), and it takes only two minutes to administer. Whaddya think? Wanna sign the man friend up? (Or, um, someone else you know?) [Marie Claire]

The snoreplasty injection is said to be a "hardening agent". What exactly does it harden and how am i sure that it wouldnt cause more health problem than just my snoring. I will really like to know the drug's side effect and how long one has to continue taking the injection. I snore alot, but i will rather continue my snoring than take up anything that will be harzardous to my health.

This sounds like Botox. How ling have they been using this in the UK. Is it a one time injection or what???? Anyone ever heard of someone doing this? I can't believe if this is for real that WE dont have it - and of course it would be $500 not $5.

that five dollars in England where they have health care for everyone. It would be at least 500.00 in the US where the drug company is about the almighty $$

It would harden the soft palette (the part of the nasal cavity that vibrates to cause snoring). I can't see how this could be good for someone... but I'm an opera singer, so I wouldn't want anything to damage my ability to sing (which this would!). It probably is botox, but it could even be something like saline, which would simply plump up the soft palette, making it less likely to go limp during sleep. People who are severe snorers should consider voice lessons instead of other therapies, because it works the muscles of the soft palette, naturally, and then it is less likely to flop around.

The answer is likely, none of the above. There is no drug, it's a hardening agent, like epoxy not botox. That's why it's $5, it's glue. No thanks I can't hear myself snore anyway.
