Nursing as it really is

user

Nursing in the real world is dangerous.

Doctors =You never really know what the doctor is saying, he speaks some foreign language and english? There are so many doctors for every organ now days, no one really agrees on how much medicine you need, which ones to stop, start or change. The doctors run in and out in 3 min or less and dont hear what you are saying. When they admit you, they don't give you the truth about what is going on. The Hospitalists as its known, only take care of you while your in the hospital and your family doctor doesn't know you were even there or what has happened to you while you were there. Then when you are told to go see your family doctor they change medicines and routines that you were used too.
Nurses= They are only taught the basics anymore and most of them want to work in the ICU or ER and don't have the common sense of a fly. They are barely 21 years old when granduated and dont want to work the lower units to get experience! they want the action units, but couldn't tell the difference if you were anxious or having a heart attack. They don't follow through with anything, or pay attention to details. The girls just want to flirt with the young studly guys or paramedics, or cops and let the patients wait to go to the bathroom or get them a drink when they are ready. God forbid they put a foley in someone and finish by taking there pants off or putting them in a gown, changing there wet clothing or changing the sheets under them... It would be nice if they let patients sleep, we are so caught up in a world that sues everyone for anything, that the establishment is so worried something is going to happen so they want everyone to give "Good customer service" Coffee, drinks, blankets, hospital socks, tooth brushes, ect.
Hospitals= If we want to cut costs from the hospital bills, how about not giving everyone new toothbrushes, buckets to wash in, a typical person gets three to four buckets for emptying urine in. When someone moves from one area to the next, they get more plastic supplies. Two to three water pitchers? We dont even use them much anymore. Three to four soaps or lotion bottles?  The hospitals go through so much linen its crazy, the nurses change your sheets even if they don't need to be changed. Doctors dont need to draw blood every 6-8 hours, or even daily, what happened to looking at your patients and seeing the physical change in them? Why do they need to do xrays every day on someone who is improving? Look at them, see the improvements, dont order tests just because they want the tests, a patient comes in for swollen ankle and ends up with cat scans at 2000 - 5000 dollars a piece, because "Oh doctor, by the way could you check out my neck, its been hurting me for months, since I'm here" How about cutting out the lights, when no one is in the room or have sensors that turn on a light when a certain amount of movements happen.

NO! She hit the nail on the head. I have been a heart patient since 1993. The NURSES are the ones that know what is going on. They see you all day long while as T's said doctors are there for a few minutes. I have gone to the same hospital for 56 years. I was born there.

It is Shocking how bad our health system has become. Everyone is afraid of a lawsuit! That is the reason for the tests.

The nurses are not paid enough for what they do. They are worth their weight in gold. They hear the same crap every day.

I am proud to say that my nurses know me and take excellent care of me.

And I would like to add, if you are going to be a doctor in the USA please make sure your English is understood!!
