Let's talk GUILTY PLEASURES, shall we?

Going in to purchase expensive boquets of flowers...surely a Guilty Pleasure for some....

Last night, as I sat in a throne-like chair getting a pedicure, I was flipping through a magazine which had a small article on the subject of guilty pleasures. I suppose the difference between 'guilty' pleasures and 'simple' pleasures, is the guilty ones aren't free. For example, a 'simple' pleasure might be enjoying a bouquet of flowers by simply burying your face in them while inhaling their intoxicating scent and feeling the satiny petals brush against your skin. Whereas, a 'guilty' pleasure might be purchasing yourself that bouquet of flowers, for no other reason except that you desire them. Interested in this frivolity, I decided to go on and read some of the examples of what the writer considered 'guilty pleasures,' and here are a few I found interesting:

Guilty Pleasures

1. Buying yourself flowers
2. Hiring a housekeeper
3. Purchasing expensive jeans
4. Holing up in a hotel
5. 800 ct. thread sheets
6. Sneaking a midnight snack while everyone else in your family is asleep. (Big deal on that one.)

So, here is my list of should be guilty pleasures although, I admit, I don't really feel the guilt at all!
1. Sleeping on a freshly laundered set of new sheets or under an incredibly soft new comforter (my guilty pleasure doesn't have to be 800 thread ct., although I do own a set.)
2. A weekend jaunt to New York City with a girlfriend.
3. Getting my nails done in RED
4. Buying some new beauty products and relishing those moments when you go through the bag of new items and open them up.
5. Having lunch at Panera Bread with my daughter
6. Purchasing a new Tascha painting off ebay

A few times a week, I'd like to list some of the things I'm thankful for...just to keep my perspective on what 's really important in life.

I'm thankful for my home and the refuge and comfort it provides. I'm thankful for air conditioning; the sound of rain on the roof while I drift off to sleep; for beautiful art to enjoy, for my creative spirit; for my children, my husband and my family's health. I am thankful for a fresh pot of coffee and flavored creamers, for lemon biscotti, dark chocolate and I am thankful for my feline friends, Chaz, Fletcher, Marklar & Oliver--for life without them would be so empty.

What are your guilty pleasures and do they really make you feel guilty for enjoying them?

    Hm...

Taking in a movie alone on a Friday afternoon.

Twice this summer, I've gone to the movies alone while my children are in school, and I have LOVED it. Generally, we go to the movies together, the 3 of us, and most of the time, we have to see something that they would enjoy and that I don't even want to see on DVD.

I was able to enjoy both "Vicky Christina Barcelona" and "The Women". I'm going to make it a point to do that more often, go and see the "adult" movie that I want to get lost in for a few hours.

I don't look at it as "guilty"....it's a much needed "time-out" for myself to just be me.

    :D

Just having time to myself where I don't go out with anyone, friends or anybody. Just me alone. I need that alone time. That's my guilty pleasure.

Sometimes I tell family or friends tha I have tons of things to do when I just feel like staying in jammies all day long and doing nothing.

reading a new book from cover to cover (after I unplug the phone)

the first bite of chocolate and peanut butter icecream

test driving a new (expensive) vehicle I will not buy

every trip to the coffee house on Sunday a.m.

    Hi Blond & Blithe...

I'm going to take into serious consideration your bucket list idea.

That would definitely be something new for me, I've never done anything like that.

    Thanks for stopping by -

Starbucks. It can be a bit expensive, and I hate spending money on anything that doesn't last. Still, I'm a coffea fiend and looove all things chocolate. Sometimes you just need your fix:)

I don't even know how I stumbled onto your site, being as computer unsavvy as I am...but I have enjoyed your comments, and wanted to tell you that, having been born IN the Great Depression, and having heard myself introduced to others (by my mom) as "Our Depression Baby" so many times--that I learned early on, to feel "guilty" about anything that ever happened on this hemisphere and always felt, no matter what the incident, as though I somehow had something to do with it. However, I am happy to tell you that this 'guilt" is lessening, and life is becoming as it was meant to be...Safe, easy, fun and fulfilling. So, hang in there...The Ride is well worth it!...

My biggest guilty pleasure would be playing World of Warcraft. I get strange looks when I tell people, so I usually don't. Heh, I play a blood elf warlock.

That's $15/month I could spend on.. I don't know... things for my house, or my daughter, or my husband, but, no. I play WoW.

    :P
