How to age gracefully lesson #1: Say no to the scalpel

My husband has had a mild crush on Kim Cattrall ever since she played Lieutenant Valeris in one of the Star Trek movies. I think she was a Vulcan, maybe? Of course, it probably didn't hurt that she's gorgeous and seems more than willing to take off her clothes in front of the camera. And who can't love the fact that she's 51 glorious years old and has pointedly stated that she has no intention of going under the knife. Her face? It looks older than most 51-year-old actors in Hollywood, but that's because it's actually aging, rather than being stretched and pulled and puffed and 'Toxed out of recognition. Seriously, in 1985, if someone had told you that Meg Ryan was going to do this to herself, would you even have believed it? Not my Sally!

There's nothing attractive about stretching your face until you start looking like the puppet Madame and sure, it's one thing when you're aging extremely gracefully, as is Ms. Cattrall, but I do wish more women were telling Hollywood's impossible beauty standards to go take a flying leap. There was nothing wrong with Kathy Griffin, for instance. Not a thing!

So I have to say "Go Kim!", especially when you look at the kind of insidious nonsense that she's fighting from all courts. She might not quite be my own personal girl crush just yet, but she is definitely my body image hero. But if she starts looking in Esteban's direction, the gloves are off and lady is going down.

Kim Cattrall looked absolutely "FABULOSA" in every single outfit she wore on SATC, from Top to Bottom.

She still looks awesome... then and now.

First of all, at 51 Kim Cattrall may not have reached the point of seeing enough signs of age to get a face lift. Hopefully, she stays away from botox, but that's her choice if she does.

Actresses such as Michele Pfeiffer have had "mini face lifts" and they look fabulous.

And, then of course, there is the list of male actors who have obviously had some kind of cosmetic procedures performed. Andy Garcia is a fav of mine. At 55 he barely looks 35. I don't think it's all in the genes.

And that's okay. If it is an improvement to their looks, giving them less wrinkles and firmer skin then that's a positive thing. Unfortunately the ones most of the articles are written about are the ones who go too far or have terrible results.

Kim looks great. It's up to her to decide what she does in the future. For my money, I'd bet that she does some kind of procedure by the time she's 60. When you're healthy and you can afford it, it's a good thing. It doesn't make her a bad person if she does.

And, it doesn't make anyone a good person who does nothing to themselves either!

As another 51 year old woman I am so glad to hear that Kim wants to age naturally. My husband and I have recently discussed aging and some of the stars that look so "plastic"! I still feel very sexy and attractive and am confident in my aging. I find what people do and how they live their lives more attactive that their outward appearance. My husband is very supportive of whatever I want to do and still tells me I look beautiful every day! That is all that matters to me!!

Not to focus entirely on Kim Cattrall, but she's much more attractive today that in the 80's as a "Mannequin".

I would not get plastic surgery or Botox if if I COULD afford it. That stuff scares me! I get nervous just going for a blood test. Why would someone put themselves through the unnecessary risk of general anesthesia, followed by weeks of pain and swelling just to have a few lines removed and your nose juggled?

Not to mention, that aging is still progressing, and sometimes in funny ways. Like lava down a volcano, if it (aging) can't go through it, it'll go around it. What a mess THAT could make of someone's face!
