Calling all Cardiologists...I have a question

My dearest friend just found out this past week she has two heart problems-tachycardia and also, far worse, a dilated aorta.  Apparently, a test was done and her dilation is 4.7.  My question is, what causes this, what is her outlook for the future, and is this something she can live with, or does it have to be operated on?  I know John Ritter had this and I think ( I could be mistaken) it is what killed him.

I also hear it's a rare condition.  Can anyone shed some light on this for me, just so I can get an understand of what is her condition.

Thank you!

I went on web md the only thing I could find information on was the tachycardia. I listed there being two different types and almost like a short circiut in the electrical system metaphor. Sorry it's not much help.
