All I want for Christmas is...a Planned Parenthood gift certificate?

I am not sure whether to let out a giddy little laugh or raise a woman power fist in the air at the news that Planned Parenthood of Indiana will be offering gift certificates for sale as holiday gifts.

The gift certificates are available for purchase in values from $25 to $100 and can be used for all services the organization provides, whether 'tis the season for pap smears, contraception or routine medical visits and procedures (yes, including abortions).

Planned Parenthood of Indiana's president and CEO, Betty Cockrum, said the offering is out of concern that women will forego basic medical needs during stressed economic times. She added that women in particular are likely to gas up the car or put food on the table than tend to their own healthcare.

Although Cockrum said she would be "amazed if a dime of it goes toward an abortion," the program is, not surprisingly, under fire. The director of one anti-abortion organization called the gift certificates "lethal," asserting that the campaign contradicts the meaning of Christmas, which is "about the celebration of human life."

Planned Parenthood chapters in Illinois, New York, Alaska, and Michigan are also considering offering gift certificates.

There have been some years I've been delighted to get holiday gift cards to my supermarket, Target, and favorite restaurants. Knowing that I was beginning the year with assurance I could stock up on all the things I needed felt like a sigh of relief.  I am privileged not to have to bank on presents to pay for groceries anymore but as a woman vigilent about health matters, I think it would be great to know all my co-pays were taken care of for the year.

What about you? What if you could get the gift of birth control or an annual exam in your stocking this season? Is a Planned Parenthood present an offensive or delightful present to get?

    GIVE THE GIFT OF ABORTION

This may even top Planned Parenthood's last Christmas fiasco, when they tried selling "Choice on Earth" holiday cards. And let's not forget their "I Had An Abortion" t-shirts. This is just another disgusting attempt to usurp the holidays to spread their own highly controversial message. Not a penny will go to abortions? Right, it's only their main and most lucrative service. Even if these gift certificates won't be used for abortions, which would be very surprising, they will go toward supporting an incredibly corrupt outfit that provides more abortions than any other private organization in the world.

I hope that everyone will see this for the obvious ploy it is to bring in more money during economically troubled times by exploiting the holiday season and pretending to care for the women Planned Parenthood preys upon.

I know that the cost of cancer is huge. A pap smear sure would have saved me alot of heartache and pain. Who knows how many lives this could save.

Planned Parenthood is a abortion referral factory. Future generations will look back on their holocaust as we look back on the concentration camps of Germany today. Their gift certificates are another ploy to get young females, especially in the Black community, in the door. Then they can sadly counsel on how to abort/stop a beating heart, should pregnancy occur. PP, please quit taking advantage of women who are vulnerable and unborn children who are defenseless. My niece's best friend is still deeply saddened by the loss of her twin children you helped abort as a teen. Try to rationalize and force laws on women, children and society all you want, abortion is not the answer. The laws prior to Roe V. Wade were to protect the helpless feeling or state of a pregnant mother. Since Roe V. Wade, you have taken that vulnerability and justified abortion as the answer. What a societal tragedy. Based on your track record, you would have counseled Mary to abort her son Jesus, as the thought of having a baby was to much to handle and society wouldn't help care for Him etc. Think about it.

I think the gift certificates are a good idea. Birth control is expensive and I'm poor. I would rather be protected than get an abortion, and if someone wants to help me be safe, then I am totally on board! Breast cancer runs in my family, rape can happen to anyone, and the idea that affordable exams and counseling are available to me is very reassuring!

Abstinence doesn't always work - didn't work for Mary 0_0.

Yeah, I might even save my card for an emergency - like an emergency STD test, the morning after pill, or counseling.

No one can make you get an abortion. Even if someone at PP tells you that you should, it's still your decision. Don't blame PP if you make that choice. It was always your choice to make.

It WOULD be a great idea if it WEREN'T coming from Planned Parenthood! The negative responses are because they've included the abortion option. If they don't expect it to be used for that, what's the point of including it?

I am anti-abortion myself, and I think this is a wonderful idea. I know that when I was an undergraduate without health insurance, I frequented Planned Parenthood for my checkups and exams, not for abortion services. Many of the underpriveleged community utilize Planned Parenthood for reasons other than to abort fetuses. People need to understand that.

Why not spend some money on programs that encourage people to act morally responsible. Most abortion seekers do so because a baby

(to them) is inconvenient, Well, maybe thinking about and understanding

the consequences of our actions would be a much better lesson than having a "Doctor" erase our indiscretions. Look back in time...do you really think that God intended for humans to be as promiscuous as they are. Animals act this way, for them it is instinct and a means of avoiding extinction. Humans (are supposed to ) have reasoning power, but I can give you many examples of humans who choose to have sex without protection and simply "wipe away their 'mistakes' with the help of a "medical pro" (term used loosely). People are NOT disposable. Everyone should really see what goes on during an abortion (at whatever stage) then, look at a newborn baby and appreciate what a gift life is. Use your heads. Choose monogamy and morality and these issues will not be so prevalent. For those who have had an abortion, I'm sorry for you...for whatever your reasons.... You will never spend another day on Earth not thinking about what you did and who that child could have become if he/she only had REAL CARING parents instead of some self-absorbed diva without any parental instincts.
