Delicious: Find your (grape)fruit

After lunch, I crave non-specific sweet things. I believe they call it "dessert" in some circles. Annoying magazine articles that reveal the secret diet tips that will change your life (and your butt!) suggest that you will go to heck if you have dessert, and instead, you should finish off your meal with a burst of nutrition by grabbing a fabulous apple! To neutralize those pesky cravings! And I have always hated that because a banana goes nowhere near the spot that needs hitting, and oh my god, chocolate is not the devil, people, and sometimes, I am going to eat cake and I will love it.

You probably never use the words delicious, dessert and diet-friendly in the same sentence. But you will, once you try these spa sweets.

But you know what I discovered? Grapes, they actually be hitting that spot. Red, seedless grapes, cold and freshly rinsed, each one like a tiny piece of candy. Hand me a branch full of grapes and you will keep me away from the candy jar for life. Or at least until the next craving hits and I am out of grapes. The lesson here is two-fold--1) it is true that fruit is good for you and candy less so; 2) finding the fruit that hits your sweet spot makes the idea of forgoing candy, occasionally, seem not so crazy. I mean, don't give up the delicious, delicious sugar (are you crazy?), but occasionally swapping out the 2:00 p.m. trip to the candy bowl for a bowl full of orange slices? So good, and so good for you.

Find out why you should eat more fresh fruit every day.

Want a super sweet treat? Put those grapes in the freezer for about an hour and then eat them. Something about the super cold brings out the flavor and they are SO good! It's like eating candy!

I love grapes - but I love muscadine grapes even better! Sure, they may be bigger and have more calories, but hey, have to indulge yourself sometimes.

(To "I don't think you have to know") I would think the nutrients and vitamins found in grapes along with their natural sugar, is a much better caloric choice than candy. Not all calories are created equal.

Anne, I love your posts, as always!!
