Cooking for a Cause : New Charity Cookbooks for 09
After Tory Burch over at the Gilt Groupe blog mentioned the forthcoming book, Park Avenue Potluck Celebrations with proceeds benefiting The Society of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, I found that 2009 has marked the release of a number of mouthwatering tomes which give back. This includes the very apropos, Thrifty Kitchen - War Time Lessons for the Modern Cook which is pictured. A classic gift -the cookbook- gets taken up a notch by being able to give back in numerous ways:
Park Avenue Potluck Celebrations 100% of proceeds from Park Avenue Potluck Celebrations cookbook benefits The Society of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and will start to ship this October, $35. A follow up to Park Avenue Potluck and stamped with the Tory Burch seal of approval (this is saying a lot as Burch is known as a fantastic dinner party giver) this cookbook features swank takes on the social potluck including what to serve guests and what to bring over when invited. Also find stories, party planning tips and style advice from New York's most celebrated hostesses.
Thrifty Kitchen - War Time Lessons for the Modern Cook Just right for our current series of unfortunate events, Thrifty Kitchen includes tips for stocking a well running kitchen from people who lived through WII in England. Proceeds benefit Independent Age, an organization in England and Ireland helping older people maintain self sufficiency at home. £9.99.
In Great Taste This cookbook by Evelyn H. Lauder's has 100% of proceeds her royalties donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, where Lauder's is founder and chairman. Filled with over 120 recipes that boast not only looking sumptuous but actually being nutritiously sound and healthy. $29.95.
Thursdays with Mom & Michael by Anita and Elaine Rosenberg is a daughter's loving look back at her mother's weekly dinner parties in Aspen. 100% of Thursdays with Mom & Michael proceeds benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Aided by chef Michael Rueggeberg this book hearkens back to the swank days when house dinner parties were true events and themed. Such as Birds of Paradise and Midnight in Morocco... can we say delicious and bring this back! A real feast for the eyes and flowing with inspiration. $48.00.
Help for Heroes Cook Book A collection of recipes contributed by celebrities, chefs and service people alike in the UK including Dame Judi Dench, Ewen MacGregor, Sir Steve Redgrave, Ainsley Harriott and more, The Help for Heroes Cook Book proceeds the org. of the same name Help For Heroes. Based in the UK they aid wounded service people of the country. £14.99.
