Yea, Nay, Or Eh: Is It Leather Weather?

partner

Sure, it was the slightest bit on the cool side last night, but was it nippy enough for a leather jumpsuit? Yes, according to Chloë Sevigny, who wore a tough-chic belted black leather jumpsuit to Proenza Schouler’s celebration of their A Magazine #9. In all fairness, it was a Spring look, shown last year on Proenza’s runway over a sleeveless white shirt. But in real life, the full-leather look worn in high summer gives us pause; thank God the humidity was low. (On a side note, it represents a bit of a silhouette shift for Sevigny, who, especially as of late, often covers up her arms in favor of showing her enviable gams.) Last week, for the Harry Potter premiere, Emma Watson also wore a Proenza Schouler leather look, this one a dress consisting of a black leather halter top and white silk skirt from the designers’ latest Resort collection. To us, Watson’s look is a lighter and more fitting way to rock a skin in the summer, though of course we respect Sevigny’s talent for breaking fashion rules. Tell us what you think. Would you wear black leather in July?

I would wear the halter definitely, but the problem is that leather makes you SWEAT. lol. No way on the pantsuit because of the sweat issue. Even when it's cold, in my experience, leather just doesn't let the skin breathe, and sweating is likely. eew.

Good quality leather will have a great lining, to avoid that sweat issue.

It's been 110 here where I live, too. Leather??? No way. Even being nekked is too hot!! If it was mild and a heck of a lot cooler, then sure. Both of those outfits are cute but for someone my age, I don't think I could pull off wearing either one of them without looking like a complete idiot.

Nay for leather in the summer, although Emma Watson has enough class to pull it off. It's not a ridiculous amount, just a tad bit. Her [Emma Watson's] look is sophisticated, as it is for the red carpet. MAYBE you can pull it off for casual wear. But for the majority of us, no.

Leather accesories are alright though, just don't go over the top.

Well I don't know about wearing leather but some people tan so much, they look like a leather bag.

Depends on your climate... In San Diego, it cools off in the evening some nights enough to wear a leather jacket... and they are not outdated. Leather jackets will always look cool,, just ask Fonzie or a motorcyclist or that hunk of a Ladies Clothesd Designer on QVC: Bradley.
