It's not easy being a celebrity. When we have a bad hair day (or bad hair year as I did in 1989), only our friends and family really see -- and mock -- it. But if you're Britney Spears and you do something like, oh, I don't know, shave your head, you better believe people are going to take notice.

Take notice we did, of her and lots of other celeb's big beauty blunders. Check them out below, suddenly 1989 doesn't look that bad …

This famous head-shaving fiasco was not the right fix for a bad hair day or a good way to make headlines.

Note to Roberts: If you decide to take a break from shaving, wear long sleeves (especially on the red carpet!). She needs this shaving 101 story, stat!










Christina Aguilera
Aguilera couldn't decide between cornrows and a 'fro, so she went with both! This natural beauty should have lost the 'do and toned down that makeup.










Madonna
Madge went into surgery hoping to look younger, but this botched job made her look skeletal! She should have tried one of these stellar anti-aging serums instead.










Nicole Richie
Where to start? We can't believe this is the same girl that perfects the bohemian chic style today. A shorter, one-color cut is a much better look on Richie.

    I don't think Britney Spears belongs on this list. She was seriously mentally ill and not in her right mind at the time she did that. Can't expect mentally ill people to look their best!

    She shaved her head not as a fashion statement, but becasue she was afraid of being tested for drugs at a custody hearing. She was told that they could take hair samples and know if you had been using illegal substances for up to 9 months previous. So, a radical hair cut later...no evidence. (Except for what the stylist swept up and put on Ebay)

    I agree with AmandaG, the girl was having a nervous breakdown. Whether the drug testing comment is true or not, she didn't make the decision in her right mind.

    This post did make me laugh a bit, only because I shaved my head a few weeks ago. I figured I might never have the nerve to do it again. I love it and have been getting a lot of compliments (way more Natalie Portman and Sinead O'Connor than Britney). So a shaved head is not a universal blunder. The others on the list, well...
