The Best Shade of Red Lipstick for Your Skin Tone
Red lipstick
is shorthand for "Can't touch this," which is why they're staples with
cool girls like Maggie Gyllenhaal, Gwen Stefani, and Scarlett Johansson
(who wore crimson with her red-hot dress to the L.A. premiere of
Vicky Cristina Barcelona).
What's that you say? Red's not your color? Umm... yeah it is. Try one of these and call me in the morning:
If you're pale: Try Clinique in Angel Red. It has a blue-violet undertone and looks striking against fair skin. Or, go for Dior Replenishing Lip Color in Action Red. This is more of a brownish-red, but it's still bold.
If you're medium to dark: You can handle more intense color without it looking too garish. Vincent Longo Lipstain Lipstick in Belle Etoile is a rich, deep red with a little luster. For an even more defiant stamp, try Kat Von D's Painted Love Lipstick in Underage Red. Yeow!
Subtle? No. Gorgeous? Absolutely.

I would love to wear a bright red lipstick, but being so fair skinned I'm scared I'll look like a hooker.

I have a lot of pink in my skin, and even with foundation, red lipstick can sometimes accentuate the flush in my cheeks. However, I did find the perfect shade for me... unfortunately it was a gift from my Mary Kay-selling soon-to-be Mother-in-Law, and the color is discontinued. Grr!

I used to work in a department store and the girl behind the makeup counter tried to find me the "perfect" red lipstick. I tried on the one she recommended and spent the day looking like Bozo the Clown. I've got very pale skin and light brown/dark blondish hair. I've never been able to find an actual red lipstick that looks good on me. I can't wear red lipstick, it wears me.

Nope. Sorry. Don't agree that there is a perfect red for everyone. I have worked in cosmetics, and have yet to find mine. What's more, most of the women I have tried to help find a perfect red for have also turned up empty-handed. I have tried many reds by atleast a dozen different brands, and have not seen one right for me so far.

I have a hard time believing that red is for everyone. I have red hair with a ruddy complexion and red just seems to accentuate that. I can wear a reddish brown soft muted matte red and not look so scary, but it still isn't all that flattering on me. I've tried wearing red lipstick in the past (and even rocked the white eyeshadow-black liquid eyeliner-red lipstick thing for a while) but looking back it really wasn't a good look for me. I tend to stick to neutral brownish pinks, they are the closest to my lip color and tend to be the most flattering. Although Maybelline just came out with Mineral Power lipcolor and the shade Terracotta is just perfect for me! It is a nice browned down neutral red that is very soft and slightly sheer.
As far as true red goes though, there is no way that I could ever pull that off without looking like a clown.

With my ghost pale complexion with rosiness splotched here and there, coupled with my green eyes, I look AWFUL in red lipstick. I can wear red clothes, but on my face, no way.

I'll be 18 in two months and have yet to find lipstick attracting, is this normal for a young adult? I LOVE wearing lipgloss though.

Just like it's had to look good in yellow, red lipstick just doesn't work for most women. So, no...red is not my color.
