Skinceuticals may be worth giving up your booze allowance

Dr. David McDaniels, I'm watching you. Awhile ago--read it and weep here--we picked up an issue of Allure where this man, a mage dermatologic researcher, confessed his addiction to SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic, which delivers a serious antioxidant cocktail of stabilized vitamin C, E and L-ascorbic acid. And because it's my skincare mission in life to stalk the personal picks of cosmetic chemists and researchers not affiliated with major corporations and shamelessly steal their secrets, I had to track it down and start using it immediately. It's waaaaayyy too expensive, but just might be worth it. Why, you ask?

I once asked a prominent chemist what she used on her face, and she replied that she mixes up her own stuff. Bah! Hey, I would too, if only that whole medical school thing weren't so inconvenient. Still, I'm smart enough to know how ignorant I am, and these people really do have a leg up on us consumers, no matter how well informed we are. So, with a heavy heart and a seriously shrinking blended mutual funds investment account I decided to walk on the wild side and order up the $139.00 wunderkind to see what the heck was going on there.

[Video] Skin Care Scoop: What are your beauty splurges?

For starters, it smells like *ss, but personally, that leads me to believe that no one was f*cking around and getting sidetracked by random perfumes while they were formulating it. It has kind of a liquidy non-texture, and there aren't any bells and whistles when it comes to packaging or anything else. Still, once it's absorbed, it can't be washed or rubbed off, guaranteeing maximum benefits and making it the perfect free radical protector to wear daily beneath your sunscreen. (I've been following it with a dosage of heavy duty VMW Hypoallergenics Armada Face Cover 30. Hey, you can never be too careful during these uncertain times.)

Lately, I'm not ashamed to report that my skin has been looking kinda fabulous. A guy recently asked me my age and when I told him his jaw dropped and he was like, "NO WAAAAAAYYY!" Maybe he was just trying to get in my pants or something, but STILL.

Anyway, I've been wrestling with breaking this news to you guys. I mean, what idiot would spend that kind of money on a vial of weird-smelling facial liquid during this economic climate? Um, I guess this one would, and my justification would be giving up after-work cocktails. (Do the math, it just about works out.) Seriously. It's that good.

$139.00 can be somewhat justified, but would you ever spend $1,000 on this face cream?

the only thing that should be in it are vitamin c(preferably at least 15%..the higher the better) and l-ascorbic acid. the best is bt Obagi and its about 70-$80.oo which is alot less and alot better

    I agree with ashlee0691

    The Obagi stuff is better, it's called "Obagi Professional-C Serum 20%", there's a 5%, 10%, 15% & 20%

The "Obagi-C Rx System C-Clarifying Serum" is really good to it works really well getting rid of sun spots.

I dont use those products myself but my mother-in-law does and they've worked amazing on her.

I use the Obagi Nu-Derm line, I love all of Obagi's products. The Obagi Nu-Derm products made my acne go away. I was almost ready to go on accutane until a family member begged me to try Obagi 1st.
