So ... now that the big day is over, and all the heart-shaped
chocolates are on sale, let's talk about what style trends work
this year. This way you can be ready for next year, whether
you're celebrating with your baby or looking to catch someone
new.
What I Saw: Traditional Colors - Red and Pink
What Works: Deep Reds
Remember February
is winter, even if you live in Texas or somewhere else it
doesn't really get cold. If you really want to play on the
traditional side, a warm shade of red will do the trick and ensure
you are season appropriate. Try raspberry or burgundy. If you
choose regular red pair it down with black.
What
Doesn't Work: Hot Pink
Ladies, please, be
careful not to stick out like a sore loud pink thumb. Yes, you want
to be noticed ... but not pointed at. If you choose pink, keep it
sweet not sassy. Try a soft pink top and cream colored bottom. And
fellas, pink is NOT suggested for you on Valentine's day. Be
sweet to your lady ... not in your ensemble choices.
What I Saw: Non-Traditional Colors &
Iridescence
What Works: Thinking Outside The Color
Box
Don't feel trapped in a corner simply due to the colors
associated with the holiday. There are other options to explore.
consider purple, preferably closer to one extreme or the other. Try
a lavender or deep royal shade. Also play with teal and chocolate
brown for variety.
What Else Works:
Iridescence
A shimmering champagne color is
a spicy alternative to the traditional pink. Keep in mind that you
don't want to over do it. Look for prints that utilize lustrous
accents in a dress, for example.
What I Saw: Separates
What Works: Simple Chic
A flirty top with a simple skirt was one of my favorite looks
this year. Add a sassy shoe and you have a great look that was way
easier to pull off than anyone will guess.
What Doesn't Work: Stark
White
I know you are tempted. If teddy bears are white and red for
Valentines day you should be too right? ... WRONG! Instead of a
white skirt, choose cream. Instead of a white pants, opt for a soft
nude color.
