New Discovery: The Hottest Hairbrush for Your Locks

I first spotted this round brush at a salon back in the beginning of summer. Its cute neon-orange bristles caught my eye as a stylist used it on my hair, but I didn't think too much of it. A few weeks later, I noticed the same type of brush being used at another salon, and I had to inquire what brand it was. A couple more weeks, and I saw the mysterious orange brush in the hands of a celebrity stylist. Hmm. Could this newcomer be giving the trusty Mason Pearson a run for its money?

Well, probably not, since Mason is known for classic boar-bristle paddle brushes, and this new favorite is a mixed-bristle round brush. It's made by a Japanese brand called YS Park (which isn't yet widely available online in the U.S., though some salon suppliers are selling it). The round brushes I keep seeing everywhere are from the brand's Curl Shine Styler Series. I'm told the orange synthetic bristles are part of the magic--they help pull the hair really taut for a smooth blowout without getting so hot they fry your hair. The natural bristles that are mixed in help give the hair nice texture and volume.

Interesting. My round brush is probably my second most important beauty item, next to the actual hair dryer. I am not sure yet if I'll bother getting one of these, though. Cuteness aside, part of me thinks all round brushes work basically the same.

Do you use a round brush? What's yours like: one with a hollow metal core and nylon bristles, or a wooden one with natural bristles? Something else? Would you be curious to try this Japanese brush, or do you think all round brushes are pretty much created equal?

I think most round brushes are pretty much equal. Although, I have to say that I have thin, baby fine hair so I have to be careful what type of brush I use to avoid damaging my hair. I use a round brush with nylon bristles and hollow metal core.

And yes I am always curious about new products.

Whoo-dee-do a synthetic/boar bristle round brush. What's the big deal, so it's orange.
