Michelle Obama: Smart speech, sassy dress

When Michelle Obama appeared on stage last night at the Democratic National Convention, I felt nervous. Not only for what she would say, but also because I feared she had made a huge fashion mistake with that starburst brooch. However, quickly into her speech, all of my fears were laid to rest. Obama was smart, smooth, warm, accessible and powerful. I loved the message of her speech, the idealism, the American dreaminess of it. I know this is exactly how I was supposed to feel, that these particular words were put together so I would respond in this particular way. But it still got me (in fact, I'm embarrassed to say, there were points when I had chills--then again, I'm a sucker for love, moms, kids and bootstrap-success stories).
And as for the dress? I still think the front bling flower was a little odd, but the shape and color were both gorgeous. It looked good on her, it suited her frame and was far, far superior to some of the uptight, dowdy-horrible suits we've seen at these things. Part 2 of Michelle Obama's speech, after the jump.

This race for the White House shouldn't be about fashion. The Fashionist, so to speak, wasn't proud of her country until her husband is racing for the white House. Both Obamas are full of hyprocrisy.

You all so much into a dress, check out his ROCKSTAR speech with 80,000 people very carefully. Whether you black or white,

The walls that (King and Obama) are trying to tear down are much different. "King was trying to tear down the walls of injustice. Obama is trying to build walls of opportunity."

Yet others, while staunchly backing Obama's candidacy, remain alarmed by his avoidance of all things racial as he seeks to mollify the white voters needed for victory.

"It looks like he's running from history. "He couldn't mention Martin, he couldn't mention the civil rights movement, he couldn't mention those who sacrificed and gave so much. It's very difficult to actually create a new world if you don't acknowledge the world from which you are emerging."

The deeper significance of King's "Dream" speech and life's work, which included aggressive demands to end poverty, inequality and the Vietnam War, had been pulled out of context.

"If Obama were being true to King's dream, he'd be talking about poverty, how to eradicate it, and the long list of things that mattered to him (Martin Luther King). "I just fear that his legacy will get glossed over."

I noticed that Obama’s speech offered countless rhetorical stanzas but not much in the way of a sustained argument aimed at convincing people who are not already enthusiasts, or for whom the charge that McCain would represent four more years of George W. Bush does not by itself close the deal.

Obama "was a community organizer when Palin was in elected office. He was in the state Senate and voted 130 times present. He never took on his party on anything. She took on a party and the old bulls and the old boy network and she succeeded." Shame on you all to be arguing about clothes. It should be the things that matters most to get this country going in the right direction. Power suits and BLING BLING!?

Don't you all see Obama is the DEM's HYPE MAN and he will only be using Biden as his scape goat or a mask. Whats' next, will he be borrowing is skin(tone) too? I am a 25 yr. old black female but not foolish to listen to Obama's hype and some celebrity. Obama's place should be on a team with Flava Flav. He certainly can get a crowd hype!!!

New name "Mr. Rockstar Hypobama " you all don't be fooled!!!
