How Dirty is Your Hair?
partner
Even hairstylists disagree
about how long to go between shampoos. Frédéric Fekkai thinks most
people look best if they wash their hair everyday; others like
Chris McMillan insist that to keep hair healthy you should cleanse
a few times a week at most.
Jennifer Aniston's hairstylist Chris McMillan's tips for
shiny, healthy hair.
So when I met the perfect-haired Kim Kardashian recently, I asked
for her take. "Hair doesn't need to be shampooed every
day," Kardashian said. "I do it every two to three days.
But if I go longer than that, my hair can become unmanageable.
After [sister Khloé's] wedding, I went five days without
shampooing—which is a very rare thing for me—and it was pretty
gross." What about you—how long do you think is too long to go
without shampooing?

Well because I have african american hair, I can only wash it once a week. This type of hair is already naturally dry so washing everyday or even a few times a week strips away the little bit of moisture there is!

It really depends on the thickness of your hair of how long you can go. Growing up, my hair was SUPER thick and SUPER long so I could go almost 4-5 days without washing it. If i washed it too much, it would become frizzy and dried out. Now that i'm older, it has thinned out some but still is pretty thick. I can go about 3 days without washing it.

When I had extensions they recommended that you only wash it once a week. Now I wash it every other day, but I could probably go longer than that depending on how many trips I make to the gym. I've tried those dry shampoo but I just still feel gross after going to the gym.

I wash my hair every morning. I used to wash it every three days, but it seemed a little bit gross to me. I don't use styling products everyday, but I like to spray it with a little light hold...

I have african american hair too, but very fine hair and instead of being dry, it gets very oily and heavy. I MUST was at twice a week or it is very nasty to deal with.

Well, I think it also depends on the amount of oil produced by your scalp as to how long is tolerable before a shampoo is necessary,

I have extremely thick, curly hair which is drier already, and I shampoo every 3-4 days. It doesn't necessarily get "greasy" but it definitely gets frizzy if I go longer than that between shampoos. When I was in cosmetology school everyone would want to practice on me because I had such thick hair. It takes forever to blwo dry as well, so I do not want to be doing that every day! ha ha. :)
