Fashion crimes for real: Flint, MI police to start arresting people with saggy pants (we feel confused, sad, perhaps scared)

What an interesting world we live in. Apparently, in Flint, Michigan, the crime level/social atmosphere is such that Police Chief David Dicks has taken on the issue of man fashion, specifically how young gentlemen are wearing their trousers.
Dicks, it seems, finds low-riding or "saggy" pants indecent and he's found a law to back him up.

According to the Detroit Free Press, the police chief believes wearing jeans that expose one's boxers can be considered either "disorderly conduct or indecent exposure, both misdemeanors punishable by 93 days to a year in jail and/or fines up to $500."

He further broke down his interpretation of the laws as, "Pants pulled completely below the buttocks with underwear showing is disorderly conduct; saggy pants with skin of the buttocks showing is indecent exposure, and saggy pants, not completely below the buttocks, with underwear exposed results in a warning."

Whoa. I don't know about this, something smells extreme and oppressive and creepily '50s-conservative.  Especially when you consider that one of the reasons to enforce this law is so cops have probable cause  to search perpetrators for other crimes, such as weapon and drug possession. Eek.

I for or one am SICK of looking a young men's 'drawers' b/c their pants are barely hanging on their a*** but to arrest them?? hmmmm maybe that is a bit far. I am not sure if it will change it. Aren't the jails and court system crowded enough? It starts at home and believe me...some of these young men are lacking the support at home that they need. Sometimes when your mother is only 13, 14 or 15 years older than you...you are lacking a lot of things.

WOW! YOU SOUND REALLY EDUCATED..... I dont think it's right to jail the guys. They may need to come up with something else. But something needs to be done. I am a young female and I dont like seeing guys dressed like that. Most people dont know what that means wearing your pants that way. They just do it because someone told them that's the style in which you dress. I dont like seeing guys drawers and to the female(that it applies), please stop showing your bras and the straps to your thongs!!!! Have some respect for yourself.

i live very near flint and i believe saginaw and bay city have decided to do the same, and I AM ALL FOR IT, I ALSO HATE THE DISGUSTING SITE OF SOME GIRL WITH HER THONG SHOWING, AND ANY WAY YOU SLICE IT IF YOUR BUTT IS SHOWING IT IS INDECENT EXPOSURE, IF YOU DON'T GET THAT THEN HOW STUPID ARE YOU, i have a son that likes to wear his pants low also but i set him straight a long time ago, that he goes no where with his boxers or butt showing, that required that we buy long shirts so that is what we did, he doesn't have a license and wont have one until he is 18 so if he wants to go somewhere i better not see boxers or butt. and by the way no one wants to look at your butts but you expose yourselves in such a way it is impossible not to see, and if you thought EURKLE LOOKED BAD YOU LOOK LIKE A BUNCH OF UNEDUCATED MORONS THAT ARE SO STUPID THAT YOU DON'T KNOW ENOUGH TO PULL YOUR PANTS UP, TRY GETTING A JOB LOOKING THAT WAY, OR ARE YOU PLANNING ON HAVING SOME WOMAN SUPPORT YOU FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIVES, SORRY THAT IS NOT A MAN, THAT IS A BOY IN A MANS BODY AND BY THE EARILER POST ON HERE WE ARE WELL AWARE OF HOW BADLY YOU NEED EDUCATION, OH THAT'S RIGHT YOU WILL BE LIVING WITH MOMMY UNTIL YOU ARE 40 OR OLDER AS NO ONE WILL HIRE ANY ONE THAT LOOKS LIKE THAT WITH THEIR PANTS, by the way if you commit a crime please keep your pants down like you want to as it helps the police with catching you, they have caught several guys lately because their pants tripped them up, LOL ROFLOL, HA HA HAA

GOOD! All the States should adopt this! Honestly, it looks like some misguided advertisement for, well... ugh, for whatever they seem to be promoting! It’s creepy. In my area we have started to see a whole lot of the first two and then horrifyingly, the boxers at mid-butt and the pants secured below the buttocks – giving of some freakish attempt at butt cleavage. It’s really alarming. What is that about?! I mean are these kids trying to start some sexual revolution or are they saying to the world kiss my butt?! Whatever statement they are trying to make I don’t thing the rest of us should have it forced upon us. AND, I totally agree that women should be held to the same standard. If your thong is showing or you skirt is so short the bottom of your butt is exposed, you should be fined. Cops should carry some kind of paper skirt type thing, like hospital gowns are made of and offenders should have to immediately cover themselves. I’m sure if they are not embarrassed to try and garner attention by public nudity, a little skirt won’t kill them.

Since when did showing butt cleavage or most of your underwear become a style? And what exactly is this style, slovenly? Or worse are these folks actually trying to make a statement to me and if so what, that I only rate their exposed backside and not worthy of any effort on their part to cover up? It’s truly sad to see that law enforcement has to protect decency in this day and age but in this instance I am grateful.
