Emma Watson thinks celeb lines have gotten ridiculous. Smart lady.

On Friday I had the pleasure of meeting Harry Potter actress Emma Watson. She's grown up in the spotlight playing know-it-all Hermione Granger, but off screen she's become a favorite in the fashion industry. If you've seen any red carpet photos of Watson, you know the girl can dress. She says her closet is full of high end pieces from Proenza Schouler and Chanel (I noticed a black ceramic Chanel J12 on her dainty wrist) and she is the newest face of Burberry. But Emma will not be joining the ranks of J.Lo, Gwen Stefani, and other celebrities hawking their own goods.

“First and foremost, I’m an actress," says Watson. “I’m really not interested in doing it for my own ego. I’m not a designer. If someone asked me to do something that was beneficial to a cause, then maybe I’d consider it, but not just [to be able to say] ‘Look at me! I’ve got my own line!’ [It’s] gotten so ridiculous.” Wow. We're impressed with 19-year-old Watson's intelligent take on celebrities in the fashion industry. We can imagine her character, Hermione, echoing these words: “The idea of making my own perfume makes me want to vomit.”

Once the Harry Potter series is done, Watson plans to attend college and take acting roles during summer break. “I really don’t want fashion to overshadow my career," she says. "That’s my worst nightmare."

Do you think too many stars have entered the fashion arena when they have no business being there? [WWD]

Heck yes! I have yet to smell a celebrities perfume and not want to use a nose blower to get the stench out! Every one of their fragrances smell either like cotton candy or dirty socks. It's all greed. Greed for money and attention. Most of these celebs don't have the talent to back up their own name so they have to turn to marketing their name some other way. Then you get the "Actress turned singer". Oh brother! Someone stop me!

The celebs are doing the fashion thing and other things... well for more income and tax breaks. It is a financial approach. That is how I simply see it. Some celebs realize that their moment of fame can be blown out any moment, and to live their extravagant lifestyle another means to support it is needed. So when you buy a celeb fashion or whatever, know that you are truly being a fan and support their lifestyle.

The more I hear about Emma Watson the more I like her. I hope she continues to progress as an actress and keeps that good common sense about her.

Actually if you can take your name as a celebrity and market a successful clothes line than that's more moolah in your pocket. The thing is I don't think Ms. Watson has to worry about launching a line anytime soon since her name is not well known enough to market a clothing brand.

I really love her! But as to the singers/actors going into the clothing lines thing, I don't have any problem with it. I guess they're just "extending" their artistic expressions.
