Do You Have A Love-Hate Relationship With Your Shapewear?

In Rachel Dodes' hilarious report on the state of shapewear
in yesterday's Wall Street Journal, she recounts the
evolution of the “modern girdle,” including some hysterical
shapewear horror stories – like one woman who tried (and failed) to
maneuver a trip to the bathroom in a pair of “crotchless” Spanx.
One bathroom blunder isn't enough to convince us, though.
They may be uncomfortable, but when crazy designers like Karl
Lagerfeld start saying no one wants to look at heavy women, and
Christian Louboutin accuses Barbie of having cankles, where
else can we turn but to a trusty tummy tucker?
If you’re a loyal fan like us, you probably already own one of
these two favorites: Spanx high-waisted power panties, which whittle the tummy and
shape thighs, and this lace trimmed v-neck from Jockey, which doesn't even look
like shapewear.

I have a unitard thingy that's a combo bra, camisol and bicycle pants. It makes me look wonderfully smooth under dresses-- there's nothing worse than bra straps, elastic waistbands and panty lines ruining the line of a dress.

I wear the spanx, I like wearing them when I wear dresses or skirts, but now I am exercising and I am starting to wake up at 4:30am to do it.

I don't have any shapewear. My body is far from perfect, but squeezing it into an uncomfortable, modern version of the corsette to try and mimic the body I actually want seems like cheating. Plus, it seems to me that what would be smoothed out in one area would end up bulging out in another. I know its all in my head, but I'd rather lose weight and keep on trying to be happy with my own body.
