Buy Oprah’s clothes—you just can’t try them on

Oprah Winfrey has a store near her studio in Chicago where you can purchase designer clothing she's actually worn on her talk show. One blogger went to check out this boutique in search of "Oprah's Closet," but sadly the contents of large wooden wardrobe, hidden amongst Oprah keychains, mugs and logofied matching sweats, left much to be desired.

"It contains no more than 10 or 12 pieces...on this day an Ellen Tracy blouse, a Donna Karan leather jacket, a pants suit that bore the distinct cut of Richard Tyler," said True/Slant blogger Matthew Greenberg. "And given Oprah’s public battle with weight, who knows what sizes are available."

And now for the weird part: when one customer attempted to bring a black skirt, once worn by Oprah, into the fitting rooms, retail associates chased her down. "You can’t try on the clothes from Oprah’s Closet,” said the clerk, “To preserve the integrity of the items and ensure that Oprah was the last person to wear them.”

Can shoppers really tell the difference? Had they been dry cleaned? Did they still smell like Oprah? Shoppers will have to cross their fingers to fit into the marked up designer items, or else they can have their photo taken in a chair from Oprah's 1997 set as a souvenir. No other photo snapping is permitted on the premises. If you ask us, this boutique just sounds like one big Debbie Downer. Have any of you visited this Oprah store and would you be interested in purchasing her pre-worn clothes? [True/Slant]

"Did they still smell like Oprah?"--haha! I guess they're trying to sell to collectors (and possibly stalkers).

Then why do they have a dressing room? Why can't it just sell the designs she has worn, but not her exact clothes? If they don't fit Oprah anymore why doesn't she just sell them on ebay for collectors or better yet give them to Goodwill or the Salvation Army?

This just seems like a ludicrious endeavor.

Shes a tad bit bigger than me. I'm a tall skinny woman. I probably

could fit both my leggs into one of her pant leggs. Wouldnt mind

    having her shoes though.

Well...while it seems a little weird, I can understand the point. Can you imagine how many "Fans" would want to try those few things on? Then by the time someone purchase it, not only Oprah has worn it, but 10 thousand other people. It makes sense. But...I don't feel the need to buy clothes that Oprah has worn. Now if she wants to GIVE THEM to me.

I have no problem with the lack of fitting rooms at my local Family Thrift and a couple of other resale stores..I just dress in clothes that allow me to try stuff on over what I am wearing or pay attention to how things are cut and guess-timate if it will fit.

But there is a big difference between dropping $3.00 on a pair of pants I can't try on and don't fit vs. what ever the prices charged by Oprah's store for an item last worn by her. Yeah, I understand maintaining the 'integrity' of Oprah being the last person to wear 'her' clothes, but the entire set up is...a set up. Not for me. As much as I respect what Oprah has accomplished in her life, I am not the least bit interested in purchasing anything just because it used to be her's.
