5 Fun New Beauty Tricks I Learned this Week

Being a beauty journalist, I'm like, been there/done that with every trick in the book. But somehow this week, I learned not one but FIVE new things ...

1. Lipliner isn't evil. (Especially these best ones.) I always kept away, because hey, "Drag queens give it a bad rap," agrees makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury. But done right, it's the best way to make my lips more symmetrical... which we ALL need if we're wearing red.

2. Curled your hair with an iron, but it turned out, ohhhh, a little Shirley Temple-esque? Pin it in a bun and set for 15 minutes. Hello, soft waves. -- Rodney Cutler, hairstylist and owner of Cutler Salon

3. So tired of the same ole black nail polish? Dilute it with a thin clear topcoat like CND Stickey for a totally new sheer gunmetal gray color. --Wanda Ruiz, nail salon owner

4. After flat ironing, tame annoying flyways: Spritz on shine serum and, clamping your flat iron closed, run the side edge of it over your top of hair. -- Paul Hanlon, hairstylist

5. I'm now layering my favorite mascaras for multiple effects. Put a volumizing formula on first to fatten up lashes and finish with a coat of lengthening mascara, which has a shinier finish and adds extra length. -- Charlotte Willer, makeup artist

Still don't have a favorite mascara? Consult this list.

Do you have tips to share? I'm all ears!

Another good tip is when you're done with your make-up. Close your eyes and holding your hairspray about a foot away spray your face gently swaying it. It will help your make-up stay on all day!!

Carol the best straightner balm that i found thus far is Philip B.'s Drop Dead Straight gel. you use it when your hair is wet with a dollop of frizz ease hair serum and when you blow dry your hair it will make it so so so glassy shiny straight you almost wont even need to flat iron it! plus it holds up well in humidity. i know i tested it in maryland for a bike show during 90 degree weather with i swear 80% humidity!!

If your ever looking for a new eyeshadow, use shiny or glittery lipgloss on your eye. And for sparkles, put a chapstick on your eye and sprinkle thin glitter on it, it will stick to it all day!

Somewhere told me to heat your eyelash curler with a hair dryer. It really works, and keeps your lashes curled all day. I put foundation under my eyes before I put concealer on for extra coverage. If you're having trouble with eye liner, try placing it on a heated light bulb or dripping water on it. I use hairspray for a heat protector before I flat iron my hair. Then I spray a little bit in my hands to get the fly-aways at the top and then spray my whole head like crazy. I live in the south, and need a bunch of product to keep the frizz down.

omg i just found the best mascara!! i believe that it's be loreal. the one that makes the tubes on the end of your lashes! it's the best! my lashes are so long and thick!!! plus it never smudges, yet easy to take off. i was kinda skeptic, but it sooo works!!
