10 best Halloween costumes for 2009

It's that time of year again … The party invites start flowing in and you find yourself wishing that your creative juices would run as freely. Why? It's time to come up with yet another Halloween costume. Luckily, the year 2009 was replete with inspirational moments in the news. From the maternal to the miraculous to the malicious, the events of this past year leave us no shortage of potential party pleasers in the costume department.

Bizarre Department: Octomom
Where shall we start? Find yourself a long, brown wig and some serious plumping lip gloss to get the right look. As for the eight babies in tow, this is where you might have to get a little creative. Perhaps a stop in the baby aisle of your local toy store will serve your costuming needs. Gather up your brood and you're ready to go!

Pandemic '09: Swine Flu

This one is too easy. Bathrobe? Got it. Hot water bottle? Local pharmacy. Pig nose? Costume shop. Swine flu? Done. Don't blame us, though, if you find people keeping their distance all night.

His Against Hers: Levi Johnston and Sarah Palin

Levi Johnston first popped up on our radars alongside V.P. nominee Sarah Palin's daughter, Bristol. Palin's future (or so we thought) son-in-law soon fell out of the political spotlight – and onto the gossip pages – as his post-breakup tongue started wagging. His and hers costumes would be easy here – the brunette beehive and glasses for her, a hockey stick and floppy 'do for him. Boxing gloves are entirely optional.

This Just In: Balloon Boy
The media had a field day with this one. Six-year-old Falcon Heene reportedly takes off in his father's experimental flying balloon device, which flies through the sky as the media trails it, finally landing in Keenesburg, CO – but with no boy inside. The actual mushroom-shaped balloon-esque contraption may prove a bit complicated to replicate exactly, but an oversized mylar balloon shouldn't be too hard to find. We'd personally pair the balloon with a "Make Me Famous" tee-shirt, but a simple "Hello My Name Is Falcon" sticker should do the trick.

this appears to be more about "current events" than about Halloween. Nice job of tricking people to click on this though.
