Hey Guys! As you know, I’ve been thinking quite a bit lately about updating my look. I want to make some changes to accompany the drastic weight loss, and more importantly, the fact that I feel like a completely different person on the inside. I started by getting a new pair of glasses a couple of weeks ago, but in truth, it’s my fashion sense that really needs help. Most days, I’m confused as how to dress my new body. Plus, I’ve lost all sense of personal style, which is way I’m so glad I had a chance to chat with Peter Valcarcel and Arianna Ward, designers of a fabulous new clothing line for women called Valcarcel, last week. Here are three tips from them on finding your own style: Read More »

So yesterday was the big day…the 2009 ING Philadelphia Half-Marathon! I'm sure you're wondering how I did. The weather was perfect, the course was gorgeous, and good friends were there to cheer me on. It was, without a doubt, one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I don’t think words could do it justice, so let me give you a play-by-play with photos: Read More »

Hey guys! Are there any soy lovers among you? I’m sure there are. As someone who is mildly lactose intolerant, soy-based products have been my alternative of choice for years. Gotta love it. Plus everyone touts the health benefits of soy, (full of protein, rich in vitamins…) right? That’s what I thought until I had a chat recently with Aimee E. Raupp, certified acupuncturist and herbalist; and author of the recently published book, Chill Out and Get Healthy: Live Clean to Be Strong and Stay Sexy. She says that soy products are really bad for you. Here's why: Read More »

Well my friends, as Cheryl over at Smitten noted this morning, Labor Day weekend has come and gone. While the unofficial end of summer is indeed a sad thing, I’m excited: Fall is my absolute favorite season of the year! It means a fresh start, cooler weather (thank goodness!) fresh apple cider, the return of boots, leggings, (not that I ever retired mine!) and other fall classics. It also means new fitness opportunities. Here are four I’m looking forward to: Read More »

Dear Shape Up! readers,
I feel like I’ve lost sight of my goals. You’ve all witnessed my struggle in the last couple of weeks: the frequent mad searches for fro-yo; the infamous cheeseburger and fries encounter and the emotional night I polished off an ice cream carton…And then, after a weekend of vacation eating, somebody asked me if I was pregnant! I also had to restrain myself from eating an entire jar of peanut butter a couple of days ago. What is going on with me? I was feeling like a total Shape Up! failure until reader jjsweetie commented on my peanut butter problem and snapped me out of it. Here’s what she said:

Have you ever struggled with overeating at night? I used to be a HUGE night eater. In college, I would easily pack on 5 to 10 lbs during the couple of weeks of finals because I was up late and eating ALL the time. Luckily, I’ve managed to keep it under control for the last few months. Of course, there are still days when I’m up late and I get really hungry. I normally reach for a yogurt or a piece of fruit or a glass of chocolate almond milk. Except for this past Monday night--I blew it! Read More »
