www.GuardDogBooks.com Quote: "Writing is the only thing I get food pellets from the universe for." ---David Foster Wallace "We are all in Life's great play--comedy and tragedy, smiles and tears, sunshine and shadow, summer and winter, and in time we takeall parts." "To me we are here for divine self-reaization through experience...." About me: As a kid growing up in the small town of Seldovia, Alaska we knew the name of every boat in the harbor, who the owner was and how many pounds of king crab it brought into town last year, the year before and the year before that. We knew when every boat was built, by whom, its cruising speed, what type of engine it had plus the engine it replaced. We knew the shaft diameter, the reduction gear ration, the propeller pitch, the diameter and could calculate hull speed without using pencil and paper. Three universities, three million pounds of king crab, tanners, several thousand tons of herring, two million pounds of salmon, four fishing boats, four airplanes, two wives, three houses, ten grandsons, twelve books and a publishing company later I find myself fishing salmon on my old set net sites in Tuxedni Bay with my wife. I forgot how strenuous this fishery is. Superwoman almost worked me to death last summer. I lost twenty pounds and my arms doubled in size. I fished salmon set-nets on the west side of Cook Inlet 60 years to keep in shape. I am what you might call an old apex preditor. We eat a lot of bear and moose. I am working on catching my second million pounds of salmon. After fishing all day I work all night picking up salmon with my boat for other people and transporting them 58 miles across Cook Inlet to Kenai. Mary and I live in the remote Tuxedni Bay. people wonder how I do it. We commute with a J-3 Cub or by boat. I could never have written Philosopher's Stone and Cosmological ice Ages and my other books without being an expert navigator with ten-thousand days of documented sea time and a multidisplinary background in all the sciences.. To some my style may seem a little brusk because as Popeye would say, "I am what I am." You want to talk freak waves coming out of Shelikoff big enough to pitch-pole and eighty footer or storms with sustained winds of over 80 miles per hour I was there.... Our wimpy sun could never have taken earth out of the billion-years Ice Age--with ice sheets five miles thick--especially with an atmospheric pressure over 1000 pounds per square inch. The only possible way life could ever get started on this planet was when our sun was captured by the Sirius system and little Sirius B putting out hundreds of times more invisible ultraviolet light than our sun pierced the atmosphere to get life started on the surface of the waters.
